no, but every time i've passed by it on the bus i've wondered about it. i think you may be the first person who mentioned it. good to know -- i'll have to try it someday and report back to you

It's funny, this thread just illuminates how much people can disagree about what's good and what's not...
I've eaten at Moutarde a few times, and it's always been delicious.
My brunch at Belleville yesterday was great.
I think Aunt Suzy's is really good, for what it is.
We have always enjoyed NaNa.
And lastly...
Los Pollitos is the most mediocre, crap Mexican food I've ever had. We keep going back, just HOPING we're wrong, and not understanding why everyone always seems to love it there. No dice. It's gross, and there's such better options. -
I enjoy Aunt Suzie's. It is good for what is is, an old fashioned Italian resturant that serves a great variety of things.
A lot of the dishes that they do with marsala and mushrooms or butter, mushrooms, onions and wine are what my aunts prepared for company, but would not be considered every day food. (my grandparents were born near Sorrento & one of my aunts lived in Italy most of her life.) The tomato sauce I grew up with was not a heavy meat sauce, but more of a light and sweet marinara.
I have also had many enjoyable meals at Sotto Voce. The last time
I was there was during the Brooklyn dining week with a group of
friends, the food was terrific and so was the service.
I've eaten at Belleville a few times and have been underwhelmed each time.
I have gotten sick from the food at the Villa and will never eat there again.
I think the food at Laila's is terrible, and Olive Vine is not much better.
The food at Tutta Pasta is medicore to poor, the same with the
food at Rancho Allegre and that Japanese resturant under it. -
sahadi's is on atlantic avenue between court and clinton--- it's not just great for spices- it has a fantastic selection of nuts, dried fruits, olives, feta and other cheeses, prepared foods, frozen appetizers, olive oil etc.... its amazing! (closed on sundays)
also, down the street is a place called damascus (great breads, stuffed bread triangles (veggie or meat), turkish delight and more!) -
Laila's - I tried it fifteen years ago and hated it, tried it many times since, and a year ago, and it's always been terrible. I'm sure I'm ordering the wrong things - but everything I've tried from there lacks seasoning and tastes like frozen veggies (note to all: frozen veggies aren't made for serving 'al dente'). Olive Vine on the other hand is amazing...
Indian Food - nothing new to add there - it's all pretty pathetic. I'm not even an indian food snob - I'm happy with decent run of the mill americanized Indian food if the real thing can't be had. I still say India House was the best I've seen in the Slope, sad as that may be. Have been settling for Star of India for the past year or so, but my last order was marked by rude service and nasty food, so they're off the list. Will have to mediocre along with someone else, maybe Amin?
Sette - been once, mediocre experience
Sotto Voce - been a couple of times, underwhelmed. The one time I ate inside, the bathroom seemed to be venting into the dining area - only household cleaning product smells, thankfully, but not good for ambiance.
Beet - park slope is blessed with many great Thai places, but that's not one of them
Bar Toto - want to love the place, but can't take the salt
Katina - used to be uninspired food in a really gross setting; since the renovation, the setting is nice, and the food is still nothing special. To be fair, pretty average diner food, much like Purity.
Ok, let's end on a happy note: brunched at 12th St Bar and Grill last weekend, and Stone Park this weekend - two of the best brunches I've had in a decade! Expertly prepared food. -
BEET IS NOT SUCK!
(no, no. do a search. it's funny) -
i'm still waiting for a decent indian spot to open in the slope. maybe i got lucky but my experience has been the opposite of everyone else's. india place was the worst. amin actually gave us the best food and really friendly service. maybe it depends on what you order..hmm..

What sucks at the Fish Camp? Food, service, ambience, or something really don't want to think about, like human hair inside a cooked fish? -

I previously dashed to Amin when I craved verbal abuse on top of bland tomatoe paste with greasy, over-cooked, tasteless vegetables laying beneath an inch of oil. I then switched from Amin to Star of India. The waiters are slightly less rude at Star of India and the food is still close to sucking, but can kill an Indian food craving if you are desperate.

If I'm hellbent on a GOOD Indian meal, I go into Manhattan or Queens. -
has anyone tried the new philipinne place on 16th/ppw? where that crapola mediterranean hole in the wall was?
-
With all the Indian food hate, I'm still going to stick up for Kinara. No, it may not be the Shun Lee (or whatever) of Indian, but it's certainly more than servicable for takeout. And they don't treat you like a baby when it comes to the spices. Does anybody like this place besides me?
-
i have this indian food problem... i love it, but each and every time i've gone out for indian food i've gotten deathly ill.
one of my best friends, who is japanese, cooks some of the best indian food i've ever eaten... and i never get sick. and another friend who's a fod stylist makes it for me, and i never get sick. but at a restaurant? won't even try again. -

there was a discussion about it in the Windsor Terrace forum

great, h8ter threads
What not to eat-
It can spawn others, like where not to shop, where not to hang out, where not to etc........
as we can see from the above, it depends on what you like
I don't think this is a hater thread. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, and anyone with half a brain will make their own conclusion.
I do also think "where not to shop" is a good one. If you're getting bad service, or whatever, definitely tell others. -
Rosewater - i thought it was way overpriced and i was completely unimpressed by the food

Kinara is not suck, I agree. Sometimes a wee bit too hot for *my* palate, but that's no criticism of them. What does bug me about Kinara is the delivery menu, which forces you to order combos... as someone who often likes to order four appetizers and one entree, that's annoying. -
Ate at Kinaras and did some take out this winter... and I liked it well enough. I just don't get the feeling to eat Indian food very often... think I maxed out on it years ago when I had no money and ate on 6th street a lot.

I got food poisoning TWICE at Rosewater and I have a steele stomach. Poison me once shame on you, poison me twice....well whatever -
Regarding Indian food - I like the food at an Indian restaurant on 5th Ave. It is between 10th street and 11th street but I can't remember the name at the moment. They have lunch special that you can't take out - basically everything is 50% off the menu price.
-
That restaurant of 5th is Kinara
-
I liked India House. The one on 7th Ave by 6th Street. The carpets were dirty, the air was musty and the chefs' hand washing was questionable. All of that added to the flavor of the food.

nubnu wrote: Hunan Delight is the best Chinese food in the neighberhood, really?
Hunan Delight offers fresher ingredients than other local Chinese restaurants and the polite staff will adjust your meal to your exact tastes. I'm bummed that after its renovation, the food prices increased, especially since I only order take-out from Hunan Delight and have no desire to sit in the renovated space.
That is so so so so sad!

i find hunan delight pretty dull all of the time. i ask for it to be more spicy, it's barely spicier. i keep trying because everyone raves about them, but they don't do it for me.

Although I no longer order from Lemongrass Grill (because the staff has screwed up my order and told me to "stick it"), I claim that when I was a Lemongrass Grill regular, I once gulped down their oily soup and then barfed it up. I'm not sure if the soup made me sick, but I remember as I inhaled it being slightly concerned about drinking too much oil. Another time, I gulped down their oily soup and then barfed it up. I can appreciate that. Hunan Delight on 6th Avenue and Union could spice things up for sure. However, I trust their cooks.
When ordering from Szechuan Delight on 7th Avenue, I loved my spciy take-out dinner until I found a huge piece of pork, which I don't eat, floating in it. The fact that I found a huge hunk of meat in a vegetarian dish combined with the extra prompt arrival of the delivery person, who appeared as soon as I hung up the phone, make me paranoid that Szechuan Delight is throwing a bunch of leftovers together. -

Extra prompt food delivery creeps me out as well. I'm a vegetarian too and I tend to think unless every other vegetarian in town orders from the same place the same dish, there's no way it should be ready that quickly.

Hmm. I really like Sabella, Amin, and Aunt Suzie's.

Ah, but did you "stick it" or not? Inquiring minds want to know

Went to Taro last night on everyones suggestion as the best Sushi in PS, and Um.........not too thrilled.
It was kinda gross and the app was like TINY and the salad was a poor excuse for a salad........Is this the best Park Slope can do?
Why does everyone rave about it?
Also, is Sahadi's a far walk from Union and 6th?
It sounds like Kalyustans on Lex, my fave!
Howdy, Stranger!
