  • One of my close friends adores Red Hot! Friiend people are vegetarians.. but no matter how you swing,, whether the food has some meat or chicken in it ... I find the place so mediocre, unfriendly, not accomodating.. I could not see recommending it to anyone.

    Harsh ..but true.
  • Veets,
I agree with you 100%. Red Hot is mediocre, unfriendly and not accomodating.

    Why bother?
  • Red Hot is okay. Their delivery is frighteningly fast. I go in there from time to time for lunch and they are reasonably friendly, maybe because I sit where I'm told. :) But I haven't ordered anything from them since discovering Hunan Delight and their vegetarian Spicy Sesame Chicken.
  • As far as Chinese food goes... I think I have sworn off the stuff.

I know some places in Brooklyn China town that are cheap and the food tastes great but last few visits.. my stomach is not happy the next morning... No graphics on this post!! But.. really... I just think that sometimes sub par ingredients combined with the Chinese fast Wok method of heavy heat in short duration just doesn't do the battle against bacteria.

So we live in Ps and have not one good chinese restaurant.. like who cares!! I have eaten enough of that food for 3 lifetimes and there are so many other choices... I just do the.. "Oh I had Chinese" for lunch when in a social situation someone suggests Chineese food..

    Kiku for sushi,
But nothing replaces the lovingly yummiest delicious piled high Mexican Sandwich( Shop). Oh, how I miss it's intimate (and yet obnoxiously loud) venue...
i was soooo sad when the mexican sandwich shop closed

And they don't treat you like a baby when it comes to the spices. Does anybody like this place besides me?
I agree completely. I've always liked Kinara. I used to get delivery at least once a week, until I burned myself out on it and had to take a breather.

Their takeout is great: $13 (incl. tax) for an app., entree, and naan. Delivery is usually super fast. Service (on the phone as well as eat-in) has always been polite and efficient. It's definitely Americanized Indian food, but it's good. Not transcendent, but satisfying nonetheless.
  • Sorry, forgot I was supposed to be slamming somebody here:

Tamari. It's the worst Japanese/sushi I've ever had, and I'm from Florida, where the Japanese food (as well as Indian, Chinese, and any other ethnic variation) is generally sub-par.

I tried Tamari's Yaki Soba, which was horrible in every way, to the point of inedibility. The Korean BBQ roll was just mediocre, but at least edible. Tried a Spicy Tuna roll and a couple other specialty rolls, but I don't remember which ones. What I do remember is that the fish was absolutely NOT fresh, or at least, not fresh enough to be used for sushi. I didn't try any of their "Tapas" -- which is apparently the focus of the place -- so maybe I should give them a break. Or not. I'm the kind of person who will eat nearly anything, especially if it's sold on a street corner, deep-fried, or comes on a stick, but the quality of the food was so bad that the memory of it actually makes me queasy.
  • Aunt Suzies is good for a red sauce joint. It's tastey, big portions, good service, very consistent, just don't expect "fine dining" here. Not a place that "needs to be avoided".
  • Subject: Beso, Thai...

Beso is hit or miss but when it's good, it's really good so I keep going back despite the consistently bad service I've had. Most of the times I've been for brunch it's packed and loud. The one time I had the french toast I got the worst food poisoning I've ever had--I couldn't eat for a week.

Mango can be good, but more often than not, it's subpar. Lemongrass across the street is consistently delicious, though the menu is slightly less exotic.

C&C has hit its stride and though the service is slow at times, the food is generally tasty. Get an horchata or a rellenos!

Coco Roco--I love it. Why isn't it more crowded at brunch? $10 for a good cocktail, coffee/tea and tasty food in a spacious setting.

Burrito Bar. Wins for worst service ever for me. Try waiting 1.5 hours for your food and getting no apology and bad food when it comes. The salsa is good, though they are too stingy with it.

    Indian--I agree, nothing good.

Must have ice-cream: Uncle Luigis (or Louies--the blue and white stripe place). 9th St and 7th Ave, Union and 5th. Yum!
  • why would I eat chinese or any asian in park slope when I can get on the B and eat on grand in 15min
  • Kinara is just fine as a local Indian Take Out place.. I don't like sitting there to eat but so what.. a phone call and half hr later or less ( I live near by) the food arrives and is just fine.
  • anyone eat the sushi at the Natural super market on flatbush by Sterling. I ate some today and it was cheap and better than the pre-packaged stuff because the old man makes it in front of you. $7.50 for two 8 piece rolls.

Yes, I do and have had no problems. The sushi is safe for you, Santa, until word gets to the chef that you're calling him "old."
