  • never been there myself, but this establishment is INFAMOUS for not answering the phone or returning calls that are left on the voice mail.

that said, there are people who swear by his red velvet cake.

i've heard that when you do stop by to place an order, there's a 2 day lead time.

    good luck.

the red velvet cake, to me, is not that great. I know, I know. but the joyce version in cupcake form is SO much less sweet. which I think is a big plus. :)

i was actually disappointed with something.... yesterday i made the trek to Joyce for the express purpose of getting my jones on with a red velvet cupcake and they were ALL OUT. :(:( and as much as i enjoyed the chocolate/marshmallow one i ate instead, it wasn't the sublime joy i was hoping for.

guess it just means i have to make a second trip.

yeah, the chocolate/marshmallow is not as awesome. it's the only other cupcake I've had a joyce and I plan to skip it in the future. :)
  • Subject: they're most certainly still open

rode by there over the weekend and the line was out the door.
  • thanks guys..now I have to go and find something sweet

that cuatro leche cake from Mojitos was AMAZING
  • Cakeman Raven is voted by me as having the absolute worst, rudest service in all of Brooklyn. I refuse to shop there.
  • I have to say, I was also very disappointed in Cakeman's. I went there after hearing so much about it, and was treated so rudely, that I just never went back.
Instead, I pick up cheesecake or rugelach from Juniors.......consistently good, and able, if not friendly, service.
  • The red velvet cake is very good but service not. Raven is hardly ever there. He has teenagers and very young adults run his shop and they are very unprofessional.
  • There's no excuse for bad service...OTOH I'm pretty sure this is Raven's second career, and not one he plans on tweaking much anytime soon. What you see is definitely what you get.

BTW If you've OD'd on the red velvet, definitely try the lemon pound cake--it's great warm or with vanilla ice cream.
  • Subject: mmmm

i like lemon pound cake with vanilla ice-cream!!! i want that right now! :)
  • The service is poor but the cake is amazing. It's worth it.
