there are some disturbing reports of suspicious people hanging out at PS playgrounds trying to lure children away on the Isawyournanny website. Anyone heard about this outside of this site?

  • here's the link, in case you're interested.

and, to be clear, one of the sightings was actually in Carroll Gardens, I think, not PS.
  • I'm getting the feeling that it is all rumor and hearsay. Apparently none of these supposed incidents have been reported to the police.
  • A little off topic, but I have to say, I just went to that "isawyournanny" website, and whoa. It kinda freaked me out. For a number of reasons...
  • I went there also.. After reading some of that stuff I wouldn't leave my kid with a nanny.. ever...
  • Well, veets, I was freaked out by some of the stories, but also freaked about by the way some of those people talk about nannys... and that the site exists in the first place... I dunno, the whole thing disturbed me.
  • I don't know how any person can treat a child with anything but kindness and love. I am a nanny and I take care of my little man as if he were my own. His mother and I have become the best of friends, my family has basically adopted them. I know she thanks god everyday that she found me when she did. I know that I do a great job but I would also be afraid to leave my child with a "stranger".
  • Quigly.. I understand where you are coming from.

Before the net... I joked with friends that I was gonna rent the front window in a storefront.. wander around the slope and take pics and post these in the window and tell moms and dads I had other details about this "Nanny sighting"...I am totally shocked that people took this idea and ran with it and there is a site with the unlikely name... Isaw yournanny (and they were doing bad against your child)... I can't believe how screwed up this is!!!!

My sensitivity on this is I had a Nanny and she raised me and did a great job!!! I am 58 years old now (probably the oldest person posting here.... you are older? ..let me know) and every day I am blessed by what she taught me and her influence is with me in every aspect of my life.
  • My son's babysitter (she didn't like the term "nanny") was fabulous. She was a part of our family. We treated her well, paid her fairly and communicated. When it came time for discipline she asked to have a discussion - we talked about what I wanted. I gave her permission to yank his ass out of the playground if he misbehaved. By giving her permission to tell him "no" and give him time outs', she was able to teach him to behave. And I reinforced what she did. I continue to get compliments on his behavior and he's 16 now. It's all about treating people right and communicating.

FYI: Most caregivers don't like being considered part of the family. They usually have their own family and want to be treated like the professional. that most are. Not trying to be snarky here. While I rely on my sitter like I would a family member (more so), I know that she loves my kids but has her own family that she looks forward to getting to after a day with mine.

By the way--those playground scares turned out to be false. Just one person said to another and to another and this poor guy has been persecuted on the internet over a misunderstanding.
