Loud Music on Park between Underhill and Washington — Brooklynian

Loud Music on Park between Underhill and Washington

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
People of Park Place and Prospect Place between Washington and Underhill please help me. Someone on Park is having a back yard party and playing music so loud that even with my windows closed and the air conditioning on I can still hear every lyric.

I have called in 2 noise complaints and I would appreciate it if anyone else who is bothered by it would do the same.

I don't understand why people play their music so loud. Can the people at the party even hear each other talk?

  • This F**ing SUCKS. It's been like six goddamn hours now and it's three in the morning now.
  • Call 311 and make a complaint.
  • It did suck and kept us up. But it could have been much worse -- at least their taste wasn't too bad.

    Montel Jordon?
  • That's one kick-ass sound system, though. What's weird is, even over the music, I could still hear people's conversations. And I'm not even that close to that backyard.

The last time that house had a party (that I heard), it started in the afternoon, and the smooth jazz wasn't bad (but it was LOUD) and it wrapped up early-ish.

Last night was not so early. But their music still didn't suck nearly as much as the other place on Prospect that plays music every. friggin'. night.
  • You live in a city. If you don't like the noise, move to the sticks.

You're on Brooklynian.com. If you don't like bitching about quality-of-life issues, go surf some pr0n.

    Oh, shut it.

...That music OFF! I'm trying to sleep! :P
  • This is a quality of "city" life issue. Not sure how long you have live in a city, nor do I care, but being born and raised here I have come to embrase that fine sounds of Brooklyn. Also, if anybody has a problem with the noise coming from a backyard have a set of balls and go knock on a door and ask them to lower the music. In my opinion calling the cops is a waste of the city's time and money. Oh by the way make sure to close your windows when they respond with sirens blaring!! Now SHHHHHH, the sound of your angry typing is keeping me up

Wow Joseph11! Sounds like someone has a big anger issues. Chill out man.
  • On a positive note
Babouche on 5th ave has live music in the evenings that I can hear it all the way to my place, and I LOVE IT!
This wonderfull latin music, flamenco guitar, wafting though the warm summer air. I've even seen people on my block come out onto their stoops to listen. It's been great.

Embrasing (sic) the fine sounds of Brooklyn is a little tougher in the middle of the night when you have to wake up for work in a few hours. It's a matter of treating one's neighbors with respect.
  • Hey jospeh, welcome to the 21st century! Noise pollution is a pretty big issue in NYC, and has been for years now.

    For example:

  • We could have a similar thread for Lincoln Place between Underhill and Washington. That block is a disgrace for the nabe, people hanging out all the time, listening to very loud music out of their cars at any given time and not the least now the new fashion is people having barbecue on the sidewalk while smoking weed at any time of the day or the night, on the sidewalk!!!!! ( I feel bad for who ever leaves upstairs as those people actually engage in their barbecue activities it below the building next door to theirs!!!)

Not to mention the Ice cream truck which come blasting at 10:30pm!!! and the kids who play football in the middle of the street to the point where they have already dented a couple of cars...

It really bothers me how a handful of people can make everyone else's lives miserable at times!
  • This has been going on in this neighborhood for over 30 years. Its not going to change. Your complaints are the reason that rent is cheaper on this side of the park. Remember to people that you are complaining about have been here much longer then you. As I said before if you want quit, leave, you wont be missed. Now turn that music UP!!

The facts that this nonesense has been going on for 20 centuries by individuals who came into the nabe before me (not so sure about this one as some of them look too young to even have been born when I first moved to PH) does not make it right. It's basic quality of life issues/manners. I wonder who you are to summon me to leave, as I own real estate on the block I am here to stay. As for the trouble makers we'll talk about it in a couple of years!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I LOVE this kind of logic! "WE were here longer then YOU, so WE can do anything WE want!"

So what if a bunch of Lenape Native Americans "The 1st people to live in this area" came back into the neigborhood and said "Could you please turn your music down. I have to go to work in the morning." You would have to comply. Right? They were here 1st. Unless your family has been living here since 1620's.
  • I have lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and I can't believe that there is a debate on this issue. For the most part, civility and courtesy rules are fairly standard. It seems that some people think that the natives just don't know any better and that is an excuse. Maybe I am crazy but I think that everyone should agree that extremely loud music at 3 am is just plain wrong.

Just because people commonly don't say thank you when I open the door for them doesn't mean that I should think "Oh that person is from ____, that's the way they roll." Instead, I politely say "You are welcome". In the same vein, I don't think there is any excuse for keeping the whole neighborhood awake so that you can get your party on.
  • Such an old played out topic on this board. Noise at night! Gunshots! Why isn't anyone bitching about the fireworks on the 4th? Fuck anyone who says the neighborhood should change simply because "you" are here. Also, screw the conservative argument that it is too much to ask the neighborhood to change after ten years. I would rather turn back the clock. I feel much more "unsafe" without the boys I have seen grow up on the corner move away. Do you, the complainers/bitchers even talk to your fucking neighbors? Whatever. That is also a played out topic on these boards as well. Is there anything new?

Obviously, noise continues to be a valid concern of residents. Is it played out? Maybe, but it's no more played out than the righteous indignation of the "we were here first, get with our 'culture' or get out" crowd.
  • noise now is big enough of deal to give large fines by the city now days.

Who are you? Where do people like you even come from? And why do you all come to Brooklyn of all places, like lemmings? :-s
  • Our neighbors across the street throw mad, nosiy bbqs on their front stoop (a.k.a. the sidewalk.) It's really annoying because our bedroom faces the street, and the parties go on into the wee hours. I have never wondered how long they have lived in the neighborhood. I don't care; it's just plain annoying. But ultimately, it's only occasionally. I can live with it.

This thread - and all the others like it - makes me wonder if anyone remembers what it is like to be young; to throw wild parties; to maybe not be as considerate as others would like. I attended parties throughout my twenties where cops showed up repeatedly to "discuss the noise" (I can't be the only one; surely some of you were there too!). I guess now it's my turn to lose some sleep. Seems fair to me.
