  • You could go to River Café. It's under the Manhattan Bridge and has a gorgeous view of the city. Dunno if they take reservations.
  • I have always heard the food sucks and its overpriced for what it is?
    True?
  • Too bad Convivium doesn't open on Friday's till 5:30. If you end up doing dinner at any point take them there!

I had special dinner there with my best friends and it was excellent. I'll try and think of lunch places :-k
  • yeah, i immediately thought of Convivium, too, but no for a lunch. too bad.
  • river cafe does not suck. it's excellent. a real treat.

also, i just had dinner at palo santo on union street and had a great meal! maybe you can check the back room for your wedding lunch?

    good luck.
  • thanks pluvious.
i live right down the block from palo santo and it looks fabulous!
i think they are closed for lunch though.
    I will check it out!
  • definitely go to the river cafe. i got married there and it's a fantastic (albeit expensive) restaurant:

  • and just for accuracy sake, the River Cafe is under the Brooklyn Bridge
  • Is there anything else?
  • How about Spirito.. they do have great food and their lunch business has no built up. I bet if you went in advance and told them the wedding plans they couldset you up--epstairs in the enclosed terrace or at least at the back of the restaurant.. perhaps screened off if you wanted it. If you are even thinking about it.. they are doingan expensive dinner special between 5-8 so u can try the food.
I must say again.. I have no association with the place other than I live close and have eaten there and enjoyed a number of times now.
  • Well, I haven't been there yet, but these places are on my to eat list. Maybe check Chowhound.com for info on them. That's where I would post also.

Frankies 457 on Court St (looked inside the place and it's really nice!)
The Farm on Adderly (spelling?not sure if they're open for lunch?)
Rose Water, Applewood, Sorrel and The Good Fork are supposed to be awesome but it's only dinner on Fridays
    #-o :(

Wish we could be more help

EDIT to add Peter Luger's is supposed to be open for Lunch, if there are no veggies in your group!!!
  • Thanks all-
Has anyone been to Bubby's in Dumbo? I heard its great with good views, same food as Tribeca, which is totally fine with me.
Frankies is super yummy, and last time I was there, there was a wedding outside in the back "barn" area. They want a $1500 minimum the minute you utter "wedding" anything, so I would just go and eat there on the down low.....I live across the street from Rose Water and I dont think its sooooooo fabulous (plus open for dinner only). I heard The Farm is excellent.
  • We ate in Bubby's.. It is this huge/lofty place and can be quite loud especially since it is a child friendly place. We had 3 kids with us all under the age of 7.. they had a great time.. there is a play area and the menu has many choices kids generally like.
Anyway.. for a wedding?? I couldn't give that one the go.
  • Thanks Veets. The thing is we are having the ceremony in our backyard (which is super lovely) and then we just wanted a casual summer lunch. I dont think a Friday afternoon would be that loud, do you? Its just us and our parents, and I didnt want to make a huge fuss. That is why I thought Bubbys would be cool. If youre saying no, I need to take that into consideration....
  • bubby's is cool. casual is the key word. and, frankly, the food is not really awesome - their bbq leaves a lot to be desired.

seriously, all of the votes for the river cafe are 100% correct. it is GORGEOUS. I took my parents there for christmas afternoon dinner a few years ago and they loved it. it is stunning. the food is delicious, the views are fantastic, and the service is impeccable.
