Getting an odd-sized package home — Brooklynian

Getting an odd-sized package home

Help!

So I ordered a set of shades online for my living room window and had them delivered to my office. They came in today and now I'm wondering how the hell to get them home. The box isn't heavy at all, and not even that big (maybe 4" wide and deep?), but it's EIGHT FEET LONG!

I'm guessing this won't fit in a cab, or at least not most cabs, and I'm not even sure about getting it into the subway. I mean, maybe, but people will HATE me if I do that. Any ideas? I really don't want to have to hire a van for something that weighs less than ten pounds.

  • I'd say take the subway. Cars are wider than 8' so you can lay it crosswise to one side of the doors, and people can walk over or around it. You could time it for when the trains are less packed.
  • Girrrrl you can do it! Take the subway -but try to get out before rush hour.

When I went to Pintchik to get mini blinds almost a month ago.I had to pick up 4 boxes of those damn blinds. They were light , and the boxes were long , but not as long as yours. I had to hold all four of them by hand and just rode that train 3 stops and I was home. It was not so crowded , but I did have to stand cuz there was no place to sit.

Just lay it across the train floor like drJ said.

If you have a friend that can come along to help , or to keep you company so that you won't feel weird or awkward about it , that might help you out.

    Just get it over with!!!

    Goodluck :)
  • You know... you're right. And this gives me a good excuse to leave work early. I'm going to go ask my boss if I can go now.
  • You guys were totally right. It wasn't too hard to handle on the subway; I just slid the box under the seats. The bigger problem was navigating stairs and escalators, and the walk home from the Franklin Avenue Shuttle. My arms are pretty banged up but at least I didn't have to spend any extra money on a cab or a van!
  • Yeeeeeeeeah Baby!

    Awesome.
