Middle of the Night A..hole Noises.
The folks over the back from me had a lovely party this afternoon that reached a harrowing crescendo at about 2am. I started bitching to 311 at 11, then called the 78th twice. I wasn't certain of the address but no matter - lots o people had called in before me with it.
At 1am I went over to have a neighbourly chat with the hosts and they assured me they would rectify the situation (311 advised me to do this. The 78th told me this was highly inadvisable).
At 3am (my darling offspring still unable to sleep) I stormed over to the precinct to confront Officer W and let him know that I was at the end of my tether, and rather skeptical as to their efforts. I hung about like a bad smell for a bit, while Officer W made a mysterious call, and by the time I got home everything was quiet.
Of course, I would rather the police spend their time dealing with 'real' crime, but 4 hours seems a long time to wait for a response. On the upside, I got to pop in and say hello to Donald at Freddy's.
13 Lincoln Place (or thereabouts): I hate you and your dumb loud music and your tacky above-ground pool. Shut up.

I feel your pain, but this post was hysterical!

should of water balloon them if they were outside, if inside ring their bell and water balloon them and do it repeatedly that teach em!
-
Water ballooning (I prefer eggs) is a good idea if they can't see where it's coming from.. otherwise if the party-thrower is anything like me things could get ugly real quick. [-X
Other ideas, old-BK style: krazy glue door locks, dog shit on doorknobs, in mailboxes, etc. etc., although I would prolly let one noisy weekend party slide. -

That sounds dangerous. Also, it was a pool party, so water ballooning may not have been a terribly disruptive tactic. -
i always like the dog poohing of their door steps when they come out.

Subject: Noisy a-holes
when we lived on 8th Ave we liked dog pooping the cars with blaring alarms. -

This was a real crime. Not as serious as an assault or worse, but certainly a real quality of life crime. You did the right thing by going to the cops. -
I have to say I am annoyed by the attitudes in this thread. Everyone should be able to throw a party that lasts till 2am every once in a while. It's part of life. Start calling 311 at 11pm? That's insane. No offense, and I have nothing against you guys because I've been reading the board for a while and if I didn't like you I would stop reading, but a lot of the people here are party poopers.
I always see posts about people complaining about noise neighbors are making. If it's a constant nuisance then complain. But this sounds like it was a one time incident. Technically this might have been a crime, but come on. We all live in a cramped space, it's our choice in where we live and being a part of civilization. Society loses when people want to rain on others' parades. Part of life is having fun, and people want to throw parties sometimes. -
there have been recent changes is the noise violations laws.
specifically , police are now supposed to actually enforce them.

Society loses when people want to rain on others' parades.
If you define "parade" as playing incredibly loud music from speakers placed in the backyard til three in the morning, then yes, I will dearly want to rain on it. A loss to society? Methinks not.
I don't know what the noise rules are, but when I went round to talk to the neighbours I simply asked that they turn the volume down - not shut up shop altogether (that would be insane!). -
Society loses when people are thoughtless a$$holes, not when they rain on their thoughtless parades.
Was just on a vacation at a family motel on the Jersey shore and was awakened by loud crowd of a-hole noises right outside of my motel room at exactly 3:15 AM. After being asked to move, thoughtless A-holes then decided to jump the locked fence - aka tespass- and play in the pool. Thoughtless A-holes continued to be loud for another hour or so at which point *someone* called the police so she could get some sleep. The moral of the story has something to do with having fun at other people's expense. -
To the guy who said everyone should be able to throw loud parties late, once in a while - here's the thing, the people throwing that loud party would HATE IT if it were done to them. Period. And yet they think it's okay to do it to others. I'm really really tired of all the narcissists who believe there are two sets of rules in the world. Their own rules to live by, which aren't many, and the rules that apply to everybody else. It's like our neighbor's son, who plays loud music nearly every day. It's okay for him to do it, but if there is even a little noise from our side (last time it was the plumber doing some work on pipes) he throws a fit.
It's true there is a new noise code in NYC, as of July 1st. First update in noise code in 30 years. The city promised the police would make noise a bigger priority. So much for that! Nice to hear nothing's changed.
