Shots on Prospect Vanderbilt? — Brooklynian

Shots on Prospect Vanderbilt?

Anyone hear this? Probably right at 2am, three or four shots, then another two or three, followed by squealing of car tires. Maybe I'm a deep sleeper but I've never heard this before, and now I know why people always post about it. Yikes!

  • At this time of the year I just assume everything's a firework. I don't know the difference between gun shots and fireworks, though.

Gunshots can kill people other than the shooter.

Fireworks generally just blow the hand off the igniter.
  • Yeah, there's been a lot of little explosions around Lincoln Place for the last week or so. I'm pretty sure it's all fireworks -- in fact, some of them have to be, unless someone (yikes) has a semi-automatic gun.
  • I ran into Mr. Emily on the train to work this AM and what he described to me sounded like gunshots, not fireworks.

    PR? KwoaC?
  • Yeah, I'd ordinarily think fireworks, but I've never heard a sound like this before. Also, several explosions, followed by several "reply" explosions from another direction, followed by screeching car wheels? Hmmm.
  • It was definitly gunshots, but it was more towards vanderbilt on Prospect Place. The cops came and some of the neighbors were outside who saw the car - apparently it was a black something or other that turned right on vanderbilt. It was definitly scary - I've never heard gunshots so close before either - very disturbing - it felt like it was coming through our apartment. My bike was also locked up outside ( i know stupid) and my husband locked it about two hours before all the commotion, this morning he saw that everything was ripped from it but the frame and the chain that it was locked to... So between feeling like we were in a warzone (briefly) and having the whole bike thing happen the same night, I'm not feeling so great
  • i seen those that sound like shot guns. they launch these things in tubes very load and in quick session.

they are very popular in the ghettos of brooklyn.
  • Unforunately these threads are becoming quite the common place on this Board. Just be vigilant, summer has officially arrived and with that, they'll be more of these incidents.
  • For some reason I can't edit my initial post to indicate the correct street (possibly because I am on a super-crappy computer) so if a mod sees this, can you change it?
  • Well dear friends, from time to time one will hear gunshots on our block but then again friends of mine left a high rise in the West Village because of a gun fight there. This is PROSPECT HEIGHTS BROOKLYN, New York. This is where we live. It is a large city with a lot of action. Our precinct is in the other direction and our post office is so far away we don't know how to get there. Our politicians don't care about us be cause many of us are transient. So, get to know your neighborhood, say hello to your neighbors, you may shock them and yourself! We are no longer in our adolecent angst. We no longer need to be cool. Good night.
  • Wow, this is a large city, and this is where I live? What an insight. Actually, I do know my neighborhood, and that's why I suspected that hearing gun shots on this block is unusual. Are you calling my concerns adolescent? If anything, it's the view that saying hello to your neighbors can stop people from shooting a gun out of a moving vehicle in the middle of the night (which is apparently what happened) that strikes me as naive.
