Subject: Question about everyone's fave, Dr. Raffinan

Based on raves in an earlier thread, I tried to schedule an appointment with Dr. Raffinan. However, he has no appointments till August, and I need one ASAP. (And he doesn't take walk-ins for new patients.) So I got an appointment with another doctor in his practice, Dr. Stroud (sp?). Does anyone have any experience with this doctor?

Comments

  • I've never been told that he doesn't take walk-ins for new patients. That's a shame.

Sorry, but I don't have any experience with Dr. Stroud.

I do recommend seeing Raffinan another time so that in the future you can see him as a walk-in.
  • I plan to, Flexichick. Anyone else dealt with this doctor?

Also, as an aside, how do you pronounce Raffinan?
  • just like it looks - Raff...In....An
  • I just couldn't figure out which syllable to stress:

    Raf FIN an

    or

    RAFF in an

    or even

    Raf fin NAN

    ?
  • I say RAFF in an. I think that's right.
  • i did a new patient walk-in with Dr. Raffinan based on Flexi's glowing reccomendations. He saw me, no problem.

I want him to be my new best friend.
  • Wow, I wonder why they told me explicitly he doesn't do walk-ins for new patients? I wonder if it's worth it to try again?

Was there any special person you spoke to, DrabRabbit? Any technique you used?

    He's the best-est, isn't he?

I don't know if I want anybody else to see him!
  • DrabRabbit, did you just show up or did you call at all?

    What time did you go?

Any tips would really be appreciated, 'cause I really need to see a doc ASAP.
  • Just call and ask which doctors are in that day. Maybe you'll find a day when it's only Raffinan.

I'd avoid first thing in the morning (I usually try for 11am or so), and avoid Mondays. Sometimes they'll tell you what time he takes lunch, so you'll know what time he's out of the office.

If you really need to go, I'd just go and plant myself in the waiting room. Much harder to say "no new patients" on the phone as compared to in person
  • Yeah, I just showed up. "Hi, I'm here to see Dr. Raffinan. No, no appointment."

I went at about 9 am and was talking with the doc by 9:10. I'm not usually a big fan of our healthcare system but Dr. Raffinan was great. I wonder if he would adopt me?

Sure, just clear it with his wife!
  • Flexichick wrote: I say RAFF in an. I think that's right. He's very casual...sometimes I call him Mike or Dr. R. (or Dr. Hottie, but that's only in my head :-) )
That's the way I pronounce it as well, though my strong tendency is to refer to him as Dr. Raff, but only in my head/when he isn't around. After all, when I'm addressing him directly, it's not as if there's anyone else nearby he could think I would be talking to.

About Dr. Stroud, I met her once when Dr. Raffinan was out of the office, but all she did was read my PPD test, so I couldn't comment too much, except that she seemed like a decent sort. Not that anyone could top Raffinan, who is, in my estimation, pretty much God. Not even going to get started on that one, or I'll be extolling virtues for multiple paragraphs, possibly pages :)
  • I hate to make everything about insurance but that's sort of (?) what it's there for... does he take HIP? (if anyone knows...)

    Thanks.
  • Could someone please post contact info for Dr. R's office? Thanks!
  • He's at 200 Clinton Street, which is the corner of Clinton and Atlantic. 718-797-5100.

My husband recently saw Dr. Stroud because Dr. R wasn't available and he said she was nice.
  • Raff-Fan checking in here!

As some of you may know, Dr. Raffinan is moving to Park Slope (great for me being in Prospect Hts!) I can't remember the exact address, but I think it's on 8th Avenue about two blocks in from Flatbush.

While having tea on a Saturday with a friend of mine who went to Dr. Raff on my recommendation (loved him, too!), he called to give me some test results. I ended up passing the phone to her so she could talk to him, too.

He's got quite a fan club!
  • here's all of the info for his new office. He's only taking ONE day off in between Clinton Street and the new locations, which open in April
