Seeking a vet for my new puppy! — Brooklynian

Seeking a vet for my new puppy!

I'd love recommendations for a vet for the small dog we just adopted. We have used Hope Animal Clinic in the past and really like them, but something a little more central in the Slope would be best, if there's a great and caring vet closer by.

Thanks for all recommendations.[/b]

  • Call Animal Kind.. make an appointment with Dr karen Matiak... and if you decude to do that pm me... and I will give you my real name so you can tell het that I recommend that you take your puppy to her.

I refuse to go on and on about how much I like Animal Kind (because I am moving slow tonight and don't want to dodge the arrows!! ) but recently one of my friends took their brand new puppy there and I went with her and we saw Doc Karen... This vet is so in to making sure baby dogs get a good start!! It was a celebration party!! And we got great advice about training tips and food and what not.
  • You should also do a search here for the keywords "vet" and "veterinarian" -- there have been many (probably dozens at this point) discussions about various vets in the area and lots of people have shared their experiences. You might also want to do a search for a specific vet's name to see what people have had to say about him or her.
  • I go to Park Slope Veterinary Care (5th Avenue between 7th and 8th). I've been very happy there. I've heard good things about Animal Kind, but I've also heard that they are very expensive and do too many tests.
  • Subject: park slope veterinary care

I haven't seen much mention in the vet threads about Park Slope Vets. I've been taking my cat there for the last year (he has kidney disease so I am there a lot), and they are fantastic. The two doctors there (Dr. Parker and Dr. Madden) are both really great. They take their time both with my cat and myself, answering all of my questions, and I never feel rushed (something I've experienced with other vets, especially the cat clinic!) Everyone who works in the office is great as well - all of them clearly animal lovers! And I never feel like they are pushing me into unnecessary testing or treatment...they know I'm not rich and don't bill me as if I am. I can't recommend them highly enough.
  • mersy and Jodi I can't agree with you more! I love Parker and Maddon and trust them implicitly with my 4 cats and 2 dogs.
  • There is a new Dr. at Park Slope Vets too.... a woman, and she's supposed to be great according to my friend who took her dog to her the other day.
  • for something local to the slope, check out:
    Prospect Park Animal Clinic
    105 Prospect Park West

    718 768-6125
    or 718 499-6677

they're right across from the park and 6th street
  • Any info on a vet near Bushwick/Bed-stuy in the Myrtle-Broadway area?

    Thank you!
