The neglected laundromat on 7th Ave. at 1st St.
I'm a frequent customer at the Laundromat on 7th at 1st St. Since February, that laundromat has seen a marked decline in service. Five of the dryers don't work; two of the washing machines are out of service. To make matters worse, four brand new dryers have been sitting in the middle of the place, wrapped in plastic, since February. And none of the attendants know anything about them. The landlords don't answer the phone number they have posted in the place.
Does anyone know of a way to get someone to pay attention to this establishment? Short of a boycott, I'm at a loss. Would calling 311 and speaking to the Department of Consumer Affairs accomplish anything?

let the market handle this. use a different place and they'll go out of business soon.

It's a matter of convenience. I don't feel much like pushing my laundry cart another 3-4 blocks when the closer place would be fine if the owners paid just a little bit of attention to it. -
a lot of shitty businesses and buildings stay in business in nyc
. cause of sheer laziness. -
There is a great laundromat right at the other end of 1st street, just across 6th Avenue. It can't be that much further for you to go. Simon is the owner and he is a nice guy.

Is that a self-service one? I should check that out. Definitely not too far. -
I walk four blocks out of my way for a better laundromat, working machines, smiling people who don't hate their jobs and don't hate their customers, people who don't steal and driers that work.
Walking is good exercise. -

Sorry - I should have said it was a dry cleaner. But they do wash and fold. No self service however. -

I'll second the tip of the hat to Simon. Good guy. -
Don't they charge $2.00 for a wash? If so, that's too damn much. For $4.50, someone will wash AND dry twice as much laundry as you can cram into those washers.
