Fang the kitten needs a home (was Beautiful Tiny Kittens...)
The house next door has a family of newborn kittens and mother in their backyard. I don't think anyone is living there and if they do, they have no idea there are kittens there. They are therefore homeless kittens and I am looking for people to try fostering or rescuing one or more. They are black and white beauties, and one little special one has brown stripes. Please ask around and see if anyone you know wants one before they get sick or hurt. I would love to take them all but I already have three and am too young to become a cat lady just yet.
I will send photos if you give me your email address.
Mod note: Updated the thread title since there's just one kitten left now.

What beautiful little babies they are. At least you know that the calico is a female. (with the black/brown and white coloring) All calicos are female.
Isn't there a group in Park Slope that rescues and fosters out cats? I can't remember the name of them, but I'll bet someone does and can get you in touch with them. And if they can't help, I'm sure they'll put you in touch with others that can. Maybe the Mom can be saved from the streets too, she looks in good health especially for a stray. Maybe that was the name of the group, the Park Slope Strays????
Good luck and it's really nice of you to do this. -
awww how cute
. -
They're gettin' pretty old - can they be handled? If they haven't been handled yet, they're likely pretty wild. Either way, they still need to be neutered.

Sooooo beautiful! I'm glad their mom is around, at least.

Subject: slope street
my friend works at slope street cats and she said they are over capacity right now. we plan to at least feed the mom and keep her fattened up, and start giving them kitten food when its time. they will be our backyard strays until some new folks can help out.
thanks for your support! -
ay toooo cutie pie!
did you try brooklyn animal foster network, BAFN? also based in park slope -
how do I know if people who are writing about the kittens are mean crazy people? Is there a certain protocol for getting references?
-
PM caseopele, I know she has an application process for the cats she's fostering. Something along those lines would work. You want to make sure the people that take the kittens are planing to make a life long commitment.
-
I love the way the mother is nuzzling up to her look-alike baby. So sweet! Is the mother feral? Are you able to handle these kittens? Like WhyFi said, they need to get used to people now or they won't be adoptable later.
-
Thanks. I have a friend who is a vet that is going to help me along with this process. I seem to have at least one excellent person interested so far. Thanks for all of your help and advice.

Not all calicos are female -- but male calicos are really rare (one in 3,000!):

Well you learn something every day. I didn't know there could be male calicos.
Either way, they are awfully cute.
Everyone is right about handling them as soon as possible. They look about what....5-6 weeks? It's not too late yet to socialize them. One method I've used for feral cats (and all of our animals) is to use a certain whistle when feeding. That way they know when they hear that whistle they're going to be fed by you or someone else and are conditioned to come to a human knowing good things will happen. You can gain their confidence more easily. I also feed at about the same time each day so they get on a schedule. Animals love schedules.
Good luck -
Thanks so much for that idea. We have started feeding the mom and giving them kitten food.
I met someone today who is going too help me trap them so we can start domesticating them. I am still looking for foster homes or someone to adopt a few more of them so spread the word.
Thanks! -
found homes yet?
keep us posted
-
I just put up a new posting looking for help trapping. My house was under renovation so I couldnt bring them in sooner. I am hoping it isnt too late!!! I have one person who wants one and a foster home for the mom (who is great and lets me hold her and stuff)...I will keep you posted. Thanks for all of your help. : )
-
Are you using a have a heart trap or can you just catch them?
-
I have a trapper now, she is coming over tomorrow. I will see what her method is then!
-
I'm sure it will work out fine.
Good luck and give the babies a kiss for us all -
they're so damn cute....I love the group photo....mama's lookin' proud!

Update on these cats/kittens:
Mom has been spayed and all five kittens are now indoors. They are beautiful kittens and are available for adoption. Please spread the word. -
more of an update...three kittens have found homes! yay!!!!
i am working on socializing the last two kittens. i am still trying to place the mom, she is FIV/FELV negative, spayed, has been vaccinated, and has had a recent dose of revolution. she is around 2 years old. i am going to take her for a vet visit to make sure she is healthy everywhere else, and then I will know how to go forward with her. if anyone knows a place she can call her own, i think she would be very happy living indoors. she just sits outside my backdoor waiting for an invitation i am unable to provide. she may have had a rough time of it on her own out there, and some girl from brooklyn just took all her babies away! (me). my dream is to bring her to a farm where she can just be herself. anyhow, now that the kittens are in good shape, let's help their mom. -
Good job, xtmazz!
-
You should be very proud of yourself for what you've done.

Happy Ending. 3 Kittens went to new homes a couple of weeks ago. Monkey, the mom, and her boy Little Goat are getting picked up today to go to a new awesome forever home. I have one left, who I call Fang, and I have a potential home lined up for her once she stops being a monster. It has been a really challenging and rewarding experience yay.
-
Excellent news. I love the names you used for the cats. Fang.
Sounds like your hands must be pretty chewed and scratched. She'll grow out of it and be a great little girl, I'm sure.
The last kitten we took in was truly psychotic, but she mellowed with time and is a wonderful friend. -
Fang still needs a home. She is in great shape, cuddled on the couch for an hour last night. She will be a great kitty. Will just need a home who knows how to continue the work we have done with her. Spread the word!
-
I'll resticky this for Fang. xtmazz, do you have a photo of her?
-
I will try and get one asap. thanks!!
-
Yes, Little Fang is ready to go to a new home. She is an awesome kitten, so playful and she purrs constantly. She has come so far from being the most feral of the bunch! We love Little Fang!!
I am having trouble with my photobucket acct so I can't properly post a photo right now, but if you look at the photo up top of the litter, she is the one all the way to the left with the little lightening bolt on her head.
Howdy, Stranger!
