more gunshots - early Sunday morning, 9/24

Did anyone else hear the gunshots early this morning? They woke me up around 4am. Sounded like it happened somewhere between Classon and Franklin, between Sterling Place and Prosect Place. Couldn't tell exactly where. I forced myself out of bed to call the police to report it. If anyone else heard them, please call to make a report of it.

  • I heard something at 4am too. But I thought it was closer to my location on Eastern parkway. My windows face Union Street, and it sounded like it came from that direction (south of EP).

Between 12am and 2am, there was a group of people screaming at the top of their lungs, fighting and partying on the street, which happens just about every single night on Union. Then, around 2am, a police car drove down the block, beeping it's siren, and it got quiet, briefly.

    Then i finally fell asleep.

I woke up again at 4am and heard 3 or 4 gunshots. There might have been more, but I was probably still asleep for the first couple
  • i have no idea about this incident, other than that i didn't hear it, but not every eruption of gunfire is indicative of an attempted murder. sometimes people just lick off a couple shots for the hell of it. maybe there should be a single post devoted to "hearing gunshots" instead of having a new one for every time someone gets drunk and busts off the roof.

u shouldn't trivialize it that way. its still illegal. and indicative of illegal gun ownership. and who is to say whether one of those stray bullets hits someone or not? its hardly just a little harmless fun.

just bear in mind, at some point those bullets have to come down somewhere.
  • fine, fine. guns are bad and shooting them off is a poor idea. i didn't think that needed to be spelled out. i'm just saying that a gunshot alone doesn't mean something terrible has happened. the countless i heard gunshots posts not only feed the silly hysteria that grips some of the people on this board, but they're also boring.

Go do your homework then, kid.

It's a beautiful day outside - why don't you go out and play?

Be glad you're not stuck at home working on the weekend like some of us grownups are. Now THAT'S boring.

Ahh, it's always so easy to be rude and condescending to people you don't know in real life when you're anonymous, isn't it Guest?

Be nice. It's not Young Snitch's fault that you're stuck at home working.
  • the barrage of i heard a pin drop posts are kinda over the top..
  • I hear the sentiment that it might sound "over the top" to report every gunshot, but I'll vote for being over-dramatic rather than negligent any day of the week.

    1) NOBODY is able to distinguish the attempted murders from the drunken festivities when you hear gunshots. I don't care how many years you've lived in this neighborhood, or how many guns you've owned personally. None of us can afford to make assumptions about how harmless gunshots "might be".

    2) The squeaky wheel gets the oil. As a community, all of us are tasked with the responsibility of demanding more police and political attention in this neighborhood. If you hear gunshots, call the police. End of story. Enough calls to the police will escalate the issue to the point of more active and thorough police presence in the neighborhood. If YOU as the neighborhood resident are passive and non-responsive about gunshots, how active do you think the police will be in trying to stop it from happening?

I hate to use such a cliché' saying, but.....if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

hm. pins dropping = gunshots? did we all wake up on the set of a bruce willis movie?
  • Gunshots again last night at around 1:30am. I'm pretty sure it was 9 shots. I think it was within a block or two from Bedford and Sterling, but I'm not positive. Anyone else hear them and know where they came from?
  • Yes, also heard them at 1:30. Agree a couple blocks away from Bedford-Sterling.
