Mullame's Bar Grill — Brooklynian

Mullame's Bar Grill

Subject: Mullame's Bar & Grill

Anyone been here yet? I've walked by several times but haven't tested it out yet. Any early reviews?

  • not yet escap. i doubt i will be going there with my wife unless they serve whole wheat pasta or something that has heirloom tomatoes in them.

next time you want to grab a beer, maybe we should hit it up.

i wonder what the ethnic makeup of that place will be. i've called it the murray hill-ization of the nabe in my blog before. it is an irish pub by name after all.
  • where is it?

Hehe, that's funny. Yeah, let's grab a beer and a "BAM Burger" there sometime soon.
    where is it?
It's on Lafayette and S Elliot. With Stonehome, Moe's, Habana Outpost around the corner, Mullame's, (and Gia??), that block is now the nightlife center of FG.
  • oohhh is that what its called..thx

quite debate-able...you will likely find some protestation from those who live at the corner of adelphi/dekalb, what with red bamboo, chez oskar, sushi on D, june restaurant, loulou's, black iris, etc...

but i agree, trifula (triangle between fulton and lafayette) is more of a center than adelphi/dekalb.

I'd say the dekalb stretch is more of a restaurant row than a bar scene, which is what I meant. But trifula is sheer genius. :)
  • I dunno..dekalb has a funkier...perhaps international flair to ut

Anyway thank goodness I don't actually live on top of either strip..nothing like people partying outside your window till the wee hours
  • LaFu! The area's called LaFu! I called dibs!

I've been to Mullane's. Eh. It was just eh.

Gonna write up a full review soon but, in short, I think it's trying to be a sports bar so:

    1) If you have HDTV then broadcast the games in HD. If not, what's the point?

    2) You're BAR food (burgers, onion rings, buffalo wings) should be Bar food and not dressed up fancy or sold as anything else.
  • Trifula is hilarious! (Sorry, Jay!)

The weekend Mullame's opened, it was nice weather, with a lot of people outside, soaking in the rays and the heffeweissen. Seemed nice from the outside, just a laid-back 'normal' crowd, not the heirloom tomato set, but not the B&T-inspired, sports/jock crowd either. Granted, I didn't go inside, and who knows what it will become, but, as much as I love Stonehome, I think it would be nice to have a non-pretentious, normally-priced (for nyc I guess) regular bar.

As far as the upcoming Trifula scene goes, there is still that space under construction next-door to Scopello, plus the BBQ place (Smoke Joint?) next door to Blimpe's. Frankly I can't wait. Plus, Frank's is nearby too.
  • Just saw on the Clinton Hill Blog that that place next to Scopello is going to be a burger joint!

That's fab! Although, it's not as if we are lacking awesome buger choices: Cafe Lafayette, Junior's, etc.

Yeah, they have a menu posted out front which I checked out today. Looks like they serve about 15 different kinds of burgers, and then a few sandwiches and that's pretty much it. Cafe Lafayette does make a mean burger, but this place seems much more family joint than french/moroccan cafe.

But...but...I came up with it first! He just added the Tri to it!

Since every seems to like TriLaFu I'll give in. TriLaFu it is.

You win Mr. Set Speed. I will now call the area TriLaFu.

Any royalties you receive from realty companies cashing in on this hip new name I get half. Deal?
  • but i wanted it to be called trifula, not trilafu.

trifula just rolls off the tongue, a la tribeca.

trilafu sounds like an erectile dysfunction drug.

    ha
  • And TriFuLa sounds like bad chinese food.

"I'll have the TriFuLa with Fried Rice please. Oh, and an egg roll."

By the way, you can order TriFuLa at Kam Kau on Myrtle.
  • I like LaFu, short and sweet.

The Tri overdoes it I think. And you are right, it does sound like bad chinese food!
  • Wow - the interior is actually way nicer than I thought! The one in Park Slope is extremely basic, so I didn't even think of eating there.

lol you guys are killing me.

And I consider this and the DeKalb strip to be the two axissses (sp?) of Ft. Greene nightlife. Co-existing peacefully
  • We had dinner there tonight. We were there early, so not a big crowd, but there was a waitstaff large enough to deal with a full house. Very attentive, but not annoying.

Good burgers served quickly. While we were there, a group of eight came in and they dealt with them just as quickly as with our table for 2.

Can't talk about the entrees, but the Elliot Burger and the Fort Greene Burger were both great. Good onion rings. A dozen good beers on tapl.

    Very attactive interior....very spacious.

    We vote yes.
  • We ate there - burgers were good. Beer was good. I was very satisfied.

OH - and I think the Smoke Joint is open!!!!!!!
  • Went there on Saturday for drinks. The bartender mixed the best chocolate martini I've ever had. Not too heavy on the liquor or the liquer, and for $9, it was well worth it. A few avid football fans were at the bar and some quiet diners had dinner in the back. Diners were skewed older (30s and up). I'll definitely return for a meal, soon.
  • We were there Sunday night for burgers. Their burgers are great, the fries were really good, and we were really pleased all around. Great addition to the area!
  • That's great to hear. Good burgers are hard to find. The guys manning the grills at Academy must be getting edgy, between this place and 67 Burger.
  • went there tonite...only had drinks. crowd was not what I expected

looks like a good add to the nabe
  • Finally got around to going there myself the other night. I can add my thumbs up for the burgers--great selection of different kinds of burgers and both mine and my wife's were good (although we both asked for medium and they were both medium-well).

As for the crowd, I'd say it looked like mostly young professionals who had gone there on their way home from work. Mellow atmosphere and several people looked like they still had their work clothes on. Not as funky or mixed a crowd as Moe's, but not totally yuppified either.

One suggestion I have is that they put some TVs in the back. If they want it to attract the sports viewing crowds, people will want to eat while watching the game. Either buy a couple new TVs or move one of those three that are side by side from the bar area to the back. Just a suggestion.
  • goddamn those yuppies... did they work at citigroup / jp morgan chase / goldman / barclays / lehman?

they gotta take over the name of our beloved shea stadium and now they have to go frequent our neighborhood's fine eateries?

    the nerve..
  • it does have a great beer selection: like 8 or 10 on tap, the majority of them pretty good. however, the food wasn't good at all, imo. although the burger was decent, it was way overcooked, my fries were totally soggy, and we got a quesadilla appetizer that i alost sent back (the cheese wasn't fully melted!). the decor isn't bad and the servers were friendly--but i think it's better as a bar with some food than as an actual restaurant.
  • went back again..opted to go there cause I just was not in the mood for Moe's (have not been for some yrs now)...definitely a nice change..staff was very accomodating..quesadallia and onion rings were yummy..drinks reasonably priced
  • Have not been since the weekend they opened. I assume that they accept credit cards now...does anyone know whether they have the NFL package? My Thanksgiving guests are interested in watching the night game....Or, alternatively, does anyone know of another good bar in the area that might be showing that game?
