Victory is mine!
Let me start by saying that I'm afraid of very few things. And usually when I'm afraid of something I force myself to confront it anyway. Rats, mice, lizards, and snakes mostly make me squee in delight. That being said, nothing turns me into a squealing girly wuss quicker than a water bug. Last time there was a water bug in my house I hopped next door (in the middle of taking my shoes off) to beg my super to get rid of it for me. Tonight though? Too late to do that so I had to suck it up and take care of it myself.
Picture this: Me hopping from foot to foot, poking things with the end of the mop trying to find out where this foul thing has gone. Screw this, I'm getting the vacuum cleaner! Then, onto a wooden wine crate so it couldn't skitter over my bare toes accompanied by more poking. Suddenly I see it, on the other side of the bedroom creeping along the wall right under the ceiling. I run over with the vacuum, hop on another wine crate and lift the vacuum. Poke, poke, get in there you filthy creature. Success! I suck it up with the vacuum hose, then crow, "Victory is mine!" I then vacuum some more stuff to make sure it's really in there. Congratulate myself some more on being a mighty hunter. Get the packing tape and put a bunch over the end of the hose, you know... Just in case. Cue some, "Come into my house? Climb on my shit? Oh hell no, how'd you like meeting my friend the vacuum? Not too much fun, huh?"
I'm sure anyone on the street got a good view of me with my arms over my head clutching the vacuum hose, shouting at a water bug. So, if we ignore the squealing, jumping on boxes, and general wuss behavior, then I am amazing!

Way to go. I hate those things too. Let me ask, though - none of the cats were interested in this new playmate/crunchy treat?

Well, the foster cats were definitely interested but not willing to come into the livingroom where the dogs were. My cats are too spoiled and lazy to give a crap, they have never once killed a bug for me! Ripley (my sweet but dim-witted pittie) was interested in it but she was still checking the pile of dirty laundry long after the waterbug had made it's way over to the bed. No amount of pointing with the end of the mop helped her see it.
I'm proud of my ability to read horror books and watch any horror movie with nary a nightmare. I used to be afraid of going to the dentist but now I see it as a test of my intestinal fortitude. I've even managed to quell my fear of spiders to the point where I catch them and set them free outside. But waterbugs and cockroaches squick me out beyond belief. I turn into one of the things I hate most, a hysterical woman!
