most reasonable nail salons?

I have yet to find one here in Park Slope.
I go to one in the city called Davidov.
They are amazing and very very reasonable.
The woman I go to does my nails and all my waxing. They are Russian, and very very thorough.
Manis are $10, pedis are $18, Brazilians are $30, etc.
I also get my hair cut + colored + blown out there-
I also would love to know if there are any great salons here.
I heard theres one in Brooklyn Heights also- -
I heard Seven Nails on 7th and Union is good, but haven't bee there myself.
-
Seven Nails is great - I love them. I go regularly. Their prices are reasonable ($7 for a manicure, $15 for a pedicure). The place is very clean and well-lit, and the staff is quite attentive.

Sorry to ask, but do they cut cuticles or just push them back? Do they shave your feet with a blade or just use a pumice? -
thanks everyone! any other places? also, what about places that do waxings? thanks again for all suggestions!
-
I just went to the place on 5th across from Key Foods. Didn't like it. Seemed disorganized. The girl started to cut my cuticles and then asked if she could.
They are a little cheaper than Seven Nails. But iIhave gone to Seven nails numerous tiems and loved them. I agree they are super attentive. -
Seven Nails................do they cut cuticles and shave you feet with a blade??????????????

ummm, nubnu, I had to run out for a couple hours to do some errands...didn't realize this was such an urgent question....
Never seen Seven Nails shave your feet with a blade. They ask before cutting cuticles, so you have the option to just have them pushed back. -
awesome thanks
sorry
i just would love to stop going to manhattan for my manis+pedis -
Yup, they compare pretty well w/Bloomie's. They don't give the shoulder rub, though.
-
Thanks.
I'm used to the place I go (Its Russian owned and operated) and I find Eastern European women to be superior to others in the Facial, Mani, Waxing department.
There is no cutting corners.......i dont need a shoulder rub, I need an immaculate mani pedi wax....... -
Studio 97 is on the corner of 9th Street and 7th Avenue (over the Burger Bar). They do everything, waxing, massages, facials to hair coloring, etc.
They are all Russian from the owners to the shampoo girl. I don't do the mani/pedi thing, but my friends who go there like the services.
I get my hair done there and have had waxing done. It is very clean, they take appointments as well as walk ins. -
REALLLLLLLLLLLY?
Reader you just made my day! -
I go to Seven Nails often and they do a great job (and are very clean) for the price. They always cut cuticles, unless you ask them not to.
However, they don't use a credo blade (the blade they use to shave your feet) since they are prohibited in New York State. I know some places still do it, but they shouldn't since it's totally illegal and also pretty dangerous.
Also, for waxes, I really like Elan Day Spa on 7th Ave. They're cheaper than most "spas" (around $20) but they do a much better job than the sketchy ones you sometimes get at a nails-only salon. -

Totally agree:

Elan for waxing
Seven Nails for mani/pedi
The place on the corner of 9th and 7th doesn't do great pedicures in my opinion. Fine for waxing but the pedicures sometimes don't last and look like something I could do at home..
Manhattan for hair and highlights. -
does seven nails do waxing? if so, any good? sometimes its a pain to run all over town!

Yes, I've seen it on their price list, so I know they do. But honestly, I've never seen anyone walk in and ask for a wax. It just doesn't strike me as the kind of place that would do a great job/be very sanitary. The ladies at Elan know what they're doing.
And Elan is actually only about 3 blocks down on the same street from Seven Nails... so you wouldn't really be running all over town... -
I've had my brows waxed at Seven nails and they do a decent job. Not sure I would get a bikini wax there, though.
Park Slope Nails which is on 7th just south of Seven Nails is smaller but pretty good...it's nothing fancy but they have massage options for pedicures so I sometimes go there when my feet and legs hurt a lot.
Sisters Nails on 8th Avenue and 12th Street (although they moved - might be more like 10th or 11th Street) is probably one of the cheaper options around. Pretty bare-bones but clean.
If you want to spend a little more money, there's a Dashing Diva on Smith Street. I like that they make you use anti-bacterial lotion before starting a manicure. It's pricey (think $45 for a pedicure) but very relaxing and they have free cosmos on Thursdays and Fridays! They do a good waxing job there. -
Im sad. It seems like none of the places mentioned are really amazing!

Well, I'm not really sure what it is you're looking for, Nubu. I think the consensus has pretty much been that seven nails does a great mani/pedi, and elan does great waxes, right down the street. Maybe you just need to go try them for yourself to see if they are what you consider amazing, since everyone has a different perspective? -
TRUE.
-
I go to Seven nails for waxing and mani pedi. I've tried a few in the area and this is the one place that has the polish staying on for over 2 weeks- gain, it depends on who you get. I usually wait for specific people if I get my eyebrow done. I would avoid the nail place across the food coop. I went there once. It was awful.
-
I've gotten legs and eyebrows waxed at Seven Nails - they're okay with that. And yes, the mani-pedi lasts a long long time. I think they're pretty much the best in the neighborhood.

That place across from the food coop is disgusting. NEVER go there. The clipper they pulled out to use on me had pieces of skin on it, and they don't disinfect anything. And they do a crap job. "Classy Nails" my ass... -
Polish Nails on 5th Ave (across from Key Food) does a very nice job and they have very good prices. The Russian place (I can't remember the name) on the corner of 3rd St. & 6th Ave is great for waxing and very reasonable.
-
nubnu, my friend, who's Polish, just opened up a salon in Williamsburg. I mention this because she's freaking awesome and has done my waxing for years. She's only going to hire Eastern European women to do the mani/pedis, and of course, she does facials. (IMO, it's either Eastern Europeans or Brazilians who are good estheticians.)
If you're up to traveling to Williamsburg, the name of her salon is Audrey's 718-388-8200. 342 Bedford. -
place above the green grocer (purple awning) on 7th between carroll and garfield is my fav- they are super friendly, inexpensive.... and the pedicures last especially long! they have waxing etc as well, and i have seen people come in just to get waxed, but i havent myself had a wax job there.
-
The consensus seems to be that Seven Nails is the best of the bunch, but I think it's a stretch to say it's "amazing". I find that it will pass in a crunch, but far inferior to most of the places in the City. I can't believe Spa Belles (formerly Bloomies Nails) or Dashing Diva hasn't opened in the Slope yet. There's definitely a market for a great but inexpensive nail salon in the area. Everything else around is just mediocre.
