Wash and fold laundry service for infant clothing — Brooklynian

Wash and fold laundry service for infant clothing

I just moved to the neighborhood and am finding my way around. (Clinton Hill...I love it). At the same time I am stumbling (literally at this point) into motherhood and trying to plan for this new phase of life in my new 'hood.

Among learning a whole lot of other things as an expeting mother, I have learned that newborn clothes and bedding need to be washed with special detergent (fragrance free, etc.).

Imagine my surprise and dismay considering I don't have the convenience of owning a washer and dryer and usually send my own clothes out for the "wash and fold" service.

What am I to do with baby's clothes? Is there a place that offers this type of service? Can I be certain that they will use the right detergent? Can I provide my own detergent? I can't imagine that I am the first new yorker to deal with this, so I'm sure someone's got some great tips.

  • I have a six-month old and was told the same thing about laundry detergent and used Dreft for the first few weeks and then thought, this is sort of a pain because I can't combine any baby clothes with adult clothes so I tried washing the baby clothes in our regular detergent (All Free and Clear) and my baby never had a problem with it and I've never used Dreft since. I think people are a little over the top about laundry detergent and baby clothes. The only issue is whether or not your baby has a negative reaction to it. I would do a test by washing a couple of items in regular detergent and see if your baby has a negative reaction. If not, it's so much easier. Having said all that, I would certainly think that if you gave a place detergent they'd be willing to use it. I don't know your location but you might try this place because they have free pick-up and delivery which is going to be VERY important to you soon: http://bubbleworks4u.com/
  • Thanks so much for the tip. I was wondering how much of it was hype and how much reality. A test is the best way to find out. I love the idea of a pick up and delivery service - the place you recommended looks great. Thanks again.
