in Durham, NC they made it illegal to panhandle without government approval and then charged homeless people 20 bucks to get an orange vest.

brilliant lol. wish our gov is smart enough to do that. -
Hi all, newbie here. I live over on Eastern Parkway but I work as a nanny within the area. Whenever I take the kids to the playground-especially on Dean street- there is some bum sitting there in all his smelly glory. I usually get the nearby firemen to chase the guy out but in general it seems like ppl just roll their eyes at me when I ask for help. I don't think it's crazy for me to not want these ppl around the kids, and isn't it against the law for any adult without a child present to hang out in parks designed for children? I'm all for being kind to those around you but I think some ppl in this neighborhood are taking the whole tolerance thing a bit too far. I hope this doesn't make me seem like some nazi...

Uh, unfortunately you can't just kick someone out of a public park for being either badly dressed, poorly groomed, unemployed, or homeless. Let's be honest and admit that many hipsters fit at least three of those categories anyway. Unless the person is acting aggressively toward the children, you really have no right to ask them to leave.

Unless, I believe, it's a playground within a park. No idea whether that's the case with the poster concerning the Dean / Eastern Parkway park, but there is a NYC law banning adults w/o accompanying children from City playgrounds -
Yeah, but I'm not talking about hipsters. I'm talking about grown men that seem to think it's ok to call out to the kids and play with them. You know "suspicious behavior". I would rather stay on the side of caution, I'm not too sure waiting until the situation becomes heated is in the best interest of, well, anyone.
