+1 for spelling 'bhangra' correctly.
neutral for it being highly doubtful that it was actually a bhangra party (i'm guessing it was dancehall... bhangra, by design, generally doesn't have that much bass). -
Mamacita, you're brilliant! Flailey outed as a white hipster, OMG that is hilarious!
Apparently that blog was Flailey in the era before the CAPS LOCK KEY GOT STUCK -

[REDACTED] I cant believe that people would complain about a party that ended at 1 am. Call me an asshole, but I couldn't give a shit if you baby was woken up at 1 in the morning. Fucking deal with it, you live in the biggest loudest city in the work. Embrace it, don't try to destroy it. What brought me to this fine neighborhood from park slope was the culture and energy that park slope has lost. If you can't handle it GET OUT, you are not welcome.
MOD NOTE: Again, make your point without personal attacks. Now get back in there, and keep it clean! -
What's with all these douche-bags using the "move to a different neighborhood" excuse?!?!? Y'all are lame....Pushovers who like so much to think you live in a neighborhood with a hint of grit and grim that you'd prefer to tolerate rudeness and bullshit rather than step up and demand respect from your neighbors. Losers.
MOD NOTE: Last warning guys. You're all capable of making your points without name-calling. Just cool it already. -
Having a party 'till 1 am is not rude. Calling the cops, and yes calling 311 on noise complaint gets you transfered to the 911 system is rude. We did new get to a point that we cant have a party on a Saturday night. How about respecting that you other neighbors have the right to enjoy a saturday night. It's not all about you.

bojolais wrote: NO, Flaily, that's not how it works. There are great hard-working people in Crown Heights who don't like loud BUMPIN BASS at 4 a.m. It's disrespectful no matter where it is. I don't want a hig-floor luxury apartment. I want my beautiful brownstone and mostly wonderful neighbors. I do not BLAME anyone. I hold each and every person individually responsible. My neighbor told us we weren't sweeping up enough in front of our house during Fall. And you know what? We started sweeping up more often and sweeping in front of her house too.
Its not about whether people "like" hearing their neighbor's music at 4 a.m., its about dealing with it for one Saturday night. Saying to oneself, "this sucks, but hey, maybe they have something to celebrate with family and friends for ONE night. Okay, I can deal." Thats how it has been in Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Flatbush, East Flatbush (and I'm sure many more Brooklyn neighborhoods) for at least 20 years. Not everyone can afford to rent a club to have a party. So, house parties have been common place in Brooklyn forever. I would agree that frequent parties of that ilk would be inconsiderate, but once a year? Come now. -

Young Snitch - I couldn't agree with you more but you know that the people on this site (especially the new comers) are not going to ever agree with anything you say.
you need to reevaluate which party is the selfish and inconsiderate neighbor: the fifty people having an annual party or the individual who calls the police because a solitary baby can't sleep. living in a community that doesn't tolerate an occasional noisy house party is a sad, sad place. let's call this cold, fearful location "brooklynia" -- we can start by removing all the stoops in front of buildings (they just lead to scary and bothersome congregating by undesirable residents). There are great hard-working people in Crown Heights who don't like loud BUMPIN BASS at 4 a.m.
I too am a hard-working person but people need to have fun from time to time. Its the summer time get over it. Its a Saturday night. -

You're right Joseph11. Having a party on a friday night till 1 am is not rude. Calling the cops for every little noise is also wrong. But please, look at your own words, "Respecting your neighbors." "It's not about you." Are you "respecting your neighbors" by playing loud music until 3 am? With Bass levels that could blow out an ear drum. Are "You" thinking of others?
When my neighbors are having a BBQ out front of our building, it doesn't bother me.
When they play music, it doesn't bother me.
It's when the music is at full blast at 2 or 3 in the morning, it's a problem.
Now I know we can all go into the the same arguments. Which are those of a 4 year old child.
"We were here 1st!"
"If you don't like it. Move!"
"Deal with it."
"I can DO, what I WANT!"
Let's meet half way. You turn the music down. NOT OFF! Just turn it down at around 1 am and go into chill mode. We can get some sleep. Everyone's happy.
If that doesn't work, we should just all go out into the streets and throw rocks at each other. People need to stop thinking just about themselves and start thinking of others. Humanity needs to start thinking as "WE" and Not "ME".

I can't help Brooklyn. Brooklyn needs to help it self.
Sadly this thread has truly become the NEW Tower of Babel. -

Again, that is not what house parties are about. You seem to think house parties are little gatherings of friends. They are not. They are actual parties, where the emphasis is on music and dancing, not wine and cheese. The music is loud, the drinks flowing, and the dancers are cutting up the carpet. Going into chill mode at 1 a.m. just wont do.
Let's meet half way. You turn the music down. NOT OFF! Just turn it down at around 1 am and go into chill mode.
I can appreciate the shock some of you are having when faced with this, but trust me, these parties have been a part of the culture of many areas of Brooklyn for decades.
If the OP said it was a weekly or even bi-weekly event, then I would agree that it was unreasonable. In addition, if there were sounds of broken glass, cursing, fighting, etc, I would call the cops too. However, there were no such claims in the OP. Coming into an area and finding a loud annual party, I think we can all tolerate that. Especially considering that these parties have been commonplace long before many of us moved in. If they are more frequent, or become dangerous, then I'd agree that calling the cops or 311 is called for. -
It seems to me that if you are having a large annual dance party, notifying your neighbors so they could find something else to do (or, alternately, show up at the party) would not be an onerous item on your to-do list.
It reminds me of my neighbors at my old apartment, who were renovating. One Saturday morning they were putting an air-conditioning unit or something on their roof. Whatever it was, it involved bone-rattlingly noisy jackhammering right on the other side of the wall from my bed, starting at 7am. They had gotten a city permit to close the street for a crane, but couldn't be bothered to slip a note under the door to warn us. Worst of all, my fiance lived 2 blocks away, and we easily could have just crashed at his place, IF they had bothered to tell us. Afterwards they came by and gave bottles of wine to everyone to apologize, but they were still assholes, as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, my point is that if the party really is only once or twice a year, all the more reason to take the time and be polite to your neighbors. -

This "discussion" has turned into a stupid either/or argument.
Dance/house parties and sleeping babies can happen on the same block.
99% of Brooklyn can achieve this, but in this thread we have trolls or anti-gentrifiction'ers pretending to be that other 1%.
Bravo. -

Amen "Boygabriel". Amen. The subject of "Noise in the hood" is never truly a "discussion" on this board. No Consensus or understanding is reached. The problem never solved. It's a tennis match of verbal diarrhea. Just a bunch of Babel. Sad. Truly sad.

I'd like to know how to garner an invite to one of these parties. One of my neighbors has great music playing most saturday evenings (tonight it sounds live!) and I want to play, too!
I wouldnt be happy with anything more than once a month though.
