customizing tees

I am looking for someone who can customize some t-shirts for me. I guess I could try the local laudromat but I was wondering if anyone knew of a tailor they really trusted in the neighborhood.

Thanks!

  • When you say customize, does that mean you want to change the shape or do you want to change the look i.e. add color/logos/bedazzles etc...
  • I want to change the shape of it. Make it shorter, sleeveless, elongate the neckline. That kind of thing. I can always cut it but I would rather have it done properly so there aren't any frayed edges. Know what I mean? I have at least 3 tees I want to change and uodate.

    Thanks!!

local tailor at the dry-cleaners, but to be honest you're going to be spending a whole lot of cash on t-shirts.

plus, a couple of things about tailoring/sewing shirts: elongating a neckline? not so easy. sleeveless? it's not always as simple as cutting off sleeves and finishing edges, depending on how large the armhole is. plus, t-shirts are made of jersey, which is knitted not woven. ergo, it won't fray and will usually just roll a little at the cut edge. lots of store bought t-shirts have bottoms left this way, so if done neatly it look intentional.

before bringing stuff to a tailor, try practicing by cutting up an old t with a good scissor, then wash it. you may be surprised by how good it looks. if so, no tailor needed.
  • Got ya. Thank you so much for the advice. I will try doing my own cutting first.
