THE SAGA ON 8TH AVE BET. PROSPECT WINDSOR

Does anybody know what's going on with the lot on 8th ave? Most recently, construction on a proposed condo was halted. I've heard that there used to be a river between Prospect & Windsor that ran down the hill to the gowanus canal. Any info? :?:

  • Ahhh, with the image in mind, you drinkin' Old E when you posted this?

Need more info to the question.
  • Oh, the legendary Park Slope river. I think it runs under my block, where it is seemingly impossible to have a dry basement.

Are you talking about the weird, skinny lot that extends almost halfway to 7th Ave.? With standing water filling a partly-dug foundation? I think that is referred to locally as Lake Windsor. Not sure what the status is but no doubt someone is trying to build condos there.
  • Lake Windsor won it's BSA appeal last fall and should (at some date?) be moving forward.

Yes, they hit the water table on the lot. Many infamous tributaries of the famed underground streams stemming from Green-Wood Cemetery. Luckily I'm high enough up the hill to not be affected. Though I have a neighbor a block away that has heard the water rushing by in another neighbor's basement.

Urban legend or true fact? Or somewhere inbetween?

(I still stand by my Old E comment above...)
