Ideas for learning conversational Spanish??

I want to learn conversational Spanish but don't know where to start. I speak French, have decent reading comprehension of Spanish, and an OK "ear for languages." I do not, though, have a lot of spare cash or the ability to be away from home a ton beyond my full-time job.

Any suggestions? Has anyone tried Rosetta Stone or any other computer-type things? Know of any local place offering not-for-credit classes at a reasonable price? Want to barter with me - editing or something (I'm a journalist w editing experience) in exchange for lessons? And so forth?

  • Don't *even* get me started

<-------Knows the rundown on Spanish as a second language:

    - books
    - iPods
    - tutors
    - magazines
    - telenovelas

I literally have two overflowing shelves in my book case dedicated to language.

Oh, a can of worms you have opened, I tell ya.

However, I'm too knackered to give you details right now.
  • What about the SUNY New Paltz Immersion Language Institute? They do week end intensives in the city
