Favorite dollar stores?

Hello all--

My boyfriend and I just moved to PH and we're loving the neighborhood. This board has been extremely helpful throughout with food/drink/laundry/mover recs--many thanks to all of you for contributing to such a wonderful resource! (Thanks especially for the tips about Sister's Community Hardware, the newfound love-of-my-life).

The only thing I find myself missing from my old neighborhood (south slope/gowanus) is the bevy of dollar stores--I haven't been able to find one in PH yet, although I suspect I'm just not looking in the right places. Do any of you have recommendations? Places you love or places to avoid? (For those of you who know the awesome guys at Save on Fifth on 5th ave and 8th street, is there anything comparable here?)

Thanks a lot, everyone!

  • You have to go to Conway on Fulton between Classon and Franklin. They have clothes on the 1st floor, housewares on the 2nd, toiletries and household stuff in the basement. I got a 6 pack of Scott toilet paper for $4.99, an 8 pack of Jergens soap for $2.29, and Tresemme shampoo and conditioner for $3.99 each. They have some decent sheet sets and towels that are priced well also.

Head over to Fulton and walk toward Bedford ave, all the dollar type stores are over there.
