Papi C. got off work a couple minutes before it happened. Just in time to be in the subway when it happened and not on the street. Thank God! :(

  • I was in Grand Central when the explosions happened. A young lady came running into the rotunda muttering "Everything's blowing up outside" and I thought "Poor girl's off her meds". Then all hell broke loose. I got outside and everyone was running up 42nd Street. I got out of the crowd and headed up Park. When I got to the corner of 41st I looked down towards Lex and there was just this huge clowd of brown debris in the air. It looked like a building had exploded. So I double-timed it over to Madison, called home to let everyone know I was okay and started walking south. I was covered in some debris, but not nearly as bad as some folks who were clearly on Lexington when the explosion occurred.
  • My daughter works down the block from the explosion and said it sounded like thunder at first. But it kept rumbling and getting louder and all of the sudden the manholes blew off and steam and debris rushed down the street. She said it was like the Apocalypse. People were running for their lives past her. It continued for over 20 minutes.
    Really intense.
She and her coworkers were going to get drunk.
But they're safe, so that's cool
  • hehe i was there when this happened.

i was heading down on Lexington ave loading up bulk mail.

suddenly everyone on the street stop walking and looks behind me. and i nearly hit a idiot in the street who stop in the middle of the street.

i got to my job and loaded up the balk mail and left. people were stil l gawking at the smoke when i was finish loading.

for me it was like 15 blocks away or so.

  • lol mamacita :p, i didn't think it was that dangerous, if there was shooting or like exploding right next to me sure i'll move farther away. other wise i'll carry on with my day.
  • @ Homeowner -- i read that the city is urging anyone who was covered in any debris to put the clothes they were wearing in plastic bags for either disposal or serious cleaning b/c of asbestos concerns. You probably already know that, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Yeah, my better half was waiting at the door for me with a plastic bag for my suit (goodbye Brooks Brothers wool two-button suit  ). However I drew the line at my shoes which ended up coming through fairly clean with only the toes being dusty. Its hard to find a comfy shoe that I can get through airport security in so I'm not giving them up. Asbestosis be damned!!!
