Kid park on Underhill/Prospect Place to finally open!
Was just walking past the renovated kiddie park on the corner of Underhill Ave & Prospect Pl, and asked the guy working there if he knew when it was supposed to open, and he said he thought maybe tomorrow (Sat July 20) - or Monday July 23!
Though I don't have any wee nippers myself, I long for the day when that horrible oversized chicken wire fence is gone!

Nice! and I believe there's a water park there as well. anyone know about this?
-
I peeked in the other day with my lil' bricktops as they were finishing up the last painting on the whales that will spout the water in the water-park part...the guy supervising said final city inspection is TODAY -- god willing there won't be any glitches (tho with the city you never know), and after that it's up to the city as to when it will open (and with that you never know). My lil' bricktops are excited to play there -- and, after 3 long summers without our neighborhood park, I'm excited to take them there....hopefully the druggies that used to hang out there won't, this time around.....

It's about freakin' time.

I've heard that Tish James and local police will be taking an active interest in making sure the park environs are "family friendly". -
Just talked to 'em!
Will be open tomorrow or Monday! -
Yeah, I just spoke with the contractor...the inspection with the city passed and now it's up to the city to decide when to open it...looks great!
-
It's open and wonderful. Lovely to see the Heights neighbors and kids playing on our own turf.
-
Hooray! We are going today--raining or not.
-
There's been talk on the PH Parents Yahoo group of started a "Friends of Underhill Park" to address a few concerns, advocate for upkeep, etc. - I'm happy to organize the 1st mtg, if I get a few takers. If anyone's interested, PM me and we can chat a bit..

Whoever designed the water drainage system for sculptures should be shot. What were they thinking? The standing water will grow algae and also make a nice home for Mosquitos.
And speaking of the sculptures. I have NOT seen one child go near the 2 small pieces near the tiny jungle jim. Very welcoming to a small person, right?
"Here you go Kid. This is what I designed when I dropped acid. Go play on my nightmare."
Scary stuff. -
Buzz. Kill. Put the fence back up, right colonel? Pfft.
Seriously though: I was there and noted that some water went past the main drainage spout near the whales, etc. But standing water? Most of it ran down to the street via the main entranceway and dried in the sun. What did I miss? -
Ha! All the kids I saw had a great time. Not a complaint from parents either. Someone said there wasn't enough shade but I thought there was more than at the Lincoln playground. It was nice to see all of our kiddie friends in the same place.

I'm away this week. Can anyone post some pictures of the new playground?
-
I love it, and my 2yr old daughter loves the sculptures. I don't know what's to complain about. There is enough shade in my opinion, and it's well designed. It beats having to go to the slope.
-
I guess those that want to can find faults, but the playground is a great treat for the kids and the adults.
I'm sure many agree that walking down the block is far nicer than having to hoof it to the Slope. Also, a lot less cel phones, now THAT is nice. -
The place was hoppin' yesterday! It was good to see so many people making use of the space.
-
Those, I think are for babies learning to walk and cruise. Like in the Tot-Lot in Prospect Park--low to the ground with pieces to hold on to. If not designed for that, I certainly considered putting my daughter down in front of it but she's still too little. I like them.
-
Ahhh, see that makes sense.

The holes are way too small for the kids to get stuck! I like the sculptures a lot and so does my 2yr old. Art is a good thing, and they are not weird but thought provoking.
[quote=poppy13]Took some photos yesterday... those little sculptures are weird. Can't even really crawl inside them or anything. What good are they? From PH -
I love how surreal they are! It's like, "Kids, go play, and become familiar with Dali while you are at it!" Genius!
-
Aargh! I went after the rain today with my 2 1/2 year-old and it was CLOSED! All chained up.
What the hell?
It's supposed to be open until dusk.
I called 311 and made a complaint.
I had to let my kid watch Sesame Street as a condolence. She was very sad. She kept saying, "Mommy, please go into the playround." -

The sculptures do look freaky, but to my 2 y.o. they were as good as the Sistine Chapel.
Once she saw the faces and the figures, she had a long story going about how one of them was Mama and one was her sister and one was a door to the library and....
All in all, the space put both the kid and me in a good mood. I'd love for the kids over 7 to stop dominating the main sprinkler, but at least here they made it harder for the big kids to simply bicycle through the sprinkler area, as they sometimes do at the Lincoln Pl playground.
Best of all was the familiar faces just showing up, with no advance planning. -

The pieces of metal on the ground are NOT Dali. Take your kid to a Museum and have them look a a REAL Dali. That's art. -

Maybe it's just me, but this "God" schtick is getting pretty tiresome.

Come now "lp1378" GOD is just a clever handle I thought up for this forum. There are other people on here that have much more offensive and annoying handles.
I'm just voicing my opinion on this forum like everyone else. I don't like the sculptures at the kids park. That's all. This thread is for talking about the "Kids Park". I love the rest of the park. Im glad it's now open and my child will be able to enjoy it and meet other kids. The only other problems are the rest rooms , which are really gross and the lack of shade.
Would you agree? Lets talk about this? I'm a listening and talking kind of GOD.
Howdy, Stranger!
