Luis TV repair - or any other recommendations?

I have a small Toshiba TV with a built in DVD player that I use for my Netflix only. Today the DVD tray ejected for no apparent reason and now it won't go back in.
Was wondering if anyone has any experiences with Luis TV repair (by the Key Foods on 5th)? I don't want to pay half of what the TV is worth for a small repair job but I don't want to buy a new TV either since I don't really use it often anyway.

  • what about playing them on a computer?
  • i think its always cheaper to buy new tvs and stuff these days than vs repair. sounds wasteful but fact of life.
  • I'm using the laptop already, but I have lots of DVDs with different regional codes and I don't completely trust that software I ripped off the net recently to play them all without any problems. And if I use the Mac DVD player I can only change the regions 7 times, I'm already down to 2 now.
Bottom line is I want that thing fixed.
  • how much did you pay for it?
  • here something cheap and would probably play almost anything you have :). and you could get codes to unlock the region on the net.

  • 200$ and that was 4 years ago.
I know, it's hardly worth discussing this but I hate to buy something new because of a petty plastic tray that slides out...or not.
  • go into Luis. tell him what you got and ask him what he charges for taking a look at it.
    it might be free
    you can't beat free
  • Free it was not.
They charge 20$ to look at it. I had them look at it, and fix it for an additional 40$. Now the tray slides back in, but the DVDs won't play anymore... (although supposedly the mechanism was fine).
My screen says "incorrect DVD". How the hell does my TV know what I want to watch? Bloody censorship!

Oh well... I'll probably buy a new DVD player one day. An international one. For now I watch my shows on www.sidereel.com

BTW your avatar makes me dizzy :cyclopsani:
