  • I remember seeing something about him on 'Walk Around Brooklyn,' or something (PBS program). If I remember right, he's one of the last of his kind...

...as far as getting in to contact with him... nope, no idea.
  • Eli "Bubbles of Happiness" Miller is the lovely gentleman you're looking for if you want old-fashioned seltzer. My neighbor has his phone number -- I'll try and track it down.

Alternatively, Joe DeCrescenzo delivers milk, dairy, juice, seltzer (Vintage -- in plastic bottles), etc. and is also a doll -- 718-983-9569.
  • The neighbor came through!

    Eli's number is: 718-449-8697.
  • Perfect, thanks for all the info!
  • I use Ronnie. He delivers the old spray bottles in old (somewhat dangerous) wooden cases. 10 bottles per case.

He only delivers plain in the returnable bottles. He delivers flavored seltzer in plastic bottles.

Call Ronnie or his wife Lois - 718-464-6408 or 917-744-3489
  • How much does that cost?
  • omg, so exciting! I want to know more.
  • what's the difference, why is old fashioned special? i want to know!
  • Clue a newbie in, why is this different that buying seltzer at the store?
  • "Old-fashioned" seltzer is in those pressurized, glass squirty bottles. You know, like the ones in classy black and white movies. Taste-wise, it's not much different, but they do recycle the bottles (some have been in use for over 50 years!) and, well, it's just kind of fun to have around. Plus you support some really nice guys -- it's a dying service.

If I remember correctly, it's about $2 a bottle and a bottle is probably about 1.5 liters.
  • Wow, what with this thread and the knife-sharpening thread, it sounds like PH is delightfully old-school. I think I have to move there! I like the idea of these lost ways of doing things still hanging on in some neighborhoods.

Thanks! that's kinda what I imagined. Actually I collect vintage seltzer bottles so I can appreciate what you're talking about. You can't imagine how happy it makes me to know these guys are still around!

me too, but some pretty rare ones: there was a brooklyn seltzer company back in the day that had my last name. i'm constantly on the hunt for those.
  • yes, $20/case, 10 bottles/case, so $2/bottle.

the bottles are 26 oz. all the bottles are very old. some have the original metal tops, others have plastic replacement tops. while the old ones look much nicer, they don't always work. sometimes they leak and other times they don't keep in any pressure which makes getting the seltzer impossible to get out.

one question for those getting delivery. what do you do when you get a defective bottle? I find that Ronnie is kinda surly when I try to get him to replace a defective bottle.
  • I never really had a problem with defective bottles, but I would like to think Eli would have replaced them, no problem. He seems to be that kind of guy.
