Dunkin Donuts -vs- Cute Coffee Shop w/wireless connection

Don't have a stoop, and I wouldn't be allowed to sit on it if I had one because it's against my lease (whole other issue).
Thus a local coffee shop is a good way to talk with one's neighbors.
And besides, what are you going to do when it gets really cold out? -

and that really stink about you not having a stoop..i suggest you go to breadstuy. -
Eh. I just moved here. Not about to move. Got no savings left.
And much as I have been toughened up by winters in Boston and Minnesota, freezing out in the stoop in the middle of winter is not a fun thing to do (and I do dress warmly, thanks). But a local hangout that's inviting and warm and has decent coffee. "Hey, why don't we go over there..."
Heck, a diner-type coffee shop would be an improvement. -
i feell..you..but i said go to breadstuy not bed-stuy
i think the closest coffee shop to you is that joint on franklin & park..or the aforementioned coffee shop on bergen & nostrand -
Yeah, I'm going to be going food shopping in a bit, and the place is only slightly out of my way, so I'm definitely going to check it out.

CLAYFILMS, was that place you were thinking of on Nostrand Crown Sky Cafe?
It's a cute little place, but because it's so tiny, there is a 20-minute seating limit, which sort of defeats the purpose of coffee shop as local hangout, so while they do serve coffee (and lattes), I would call it a restaurant rather than a coffee shop. It's certainly not a place to go if I just want to veg with a coffee and a book when I'm sick of being cooped up in my apartment.
That said, I did go in and check it out. The coffee is ok, and I had the veggie roti, which was delicious (though for some reason, my salad ended up on the tray rather than the plate. Presentation, anyone?). The food is reasonably priced and made to order and the service was good. It certainly serves a need in this neighborhood for sit-down restaurants, so it would be a cute place to go for a quick, not leisurely, brunch.
But I'm still holding out for a place with more seating where we don't have to be rushed out after 20 minutes. -
I haven't been...are they strict about the 20 minute thing? Even if you order food? I get it for people who only buy a coffee, but being pressured to hurry up a meal is a big turnoff. maybe they state that policy as a way of keeping it from being a place where the meandering masses might lurk. I hear you though, a place where one can lounge and meet neighbors is needed.
Saje on Franklin is good and Bread-Stuy really is worth the walk. It's also inspiring. A simple little hangout like that really does bring people together and get things going. Heck, if we had more of (or even one?) on this side of Atlantic, we could all meet each other instead of typing! Wouldn't that be nice? -
You don't understand. This place is *tiny*. They don't seem to be super-strict about the time limit, but if you walk in, you'll see immediately why it's necessary. There really isn't room for hanging out. It's more of a take-out place with some tables for eating in, except it has more atmosphere and is more homey than a takeout place.
Where is Bread-Stuy again? -
yeah bangladesh..i was talking about that crown sky spot...happy to hear they have good roti and to know they serve lattes...
i'm on bergen & kingston and i chill in breadstuy often..i grew up in the church around the corner and have been going since the grand opening...so that place is like a 2nd home to me..u should check it out it's on lewis ave bet decatur & macdonough
