Ratner and new Apt

I've been looking for a while to buy a place in Ft Greene, and Im trying to get a sense of the impact of the rail yards project. I'm looking at a 1br on S. Oxford at Hanson Place. It's one long block away from the project site...do you thing that will make for miserable living conditions in the coming years? Anybody have any advice?

Thanks so Much,
Steve

  • Well, it's gonna be loud and dusty for a good long while, that's for sure. Bear in mind that Atlantic Yards will be the most dense housing development constructed IN HISTORY, and that gives you an idea of the kind of large-scale construction that will be going on in your potential 'hood for 10+ years, not to mention the attendent traffic snarls...
  • It would be hard to underestimate the negative impact the project will have on the immediate neighborhood, it'll be a forest of cranes, cement trucks, and tractor trailers bringing in steel. There will be trucks lined up and parked on all the side streets waiting to unload, and the streets will be snarled all day and probably on saturday if they're in a rush to finish. I walk by the Forte building every morning on the way to work and it was bad enough. The long bed steel trucks have a lot of trouble negotiating the narrow streets and the cement trucks can only unload 1 at a time so the intersection there was honking horns and yelling workman, it still is hard to walk by. You should think about this....
  • ENY, B'ville and Canarsie are going to look pretty appealing.
