Leaving Brooklyn — Brooklynian

Leaving Brooklyn

Hey All,

After more than two years and 1172 posts on this Board, not to mention three decades or so of living in my home borough, I'm finally making the move out. Yes, I do feel like a bit of a traitor, but every so often I just get the itch to see what else is out there in the world, or in this case, across the East River. Yep, doing the unthinkable for a Brooklynian--moving to Manhattan!!!

Anyway, I'm also going to be working at--gasp--a job, which will be a rather unfamiliar experience after the past two years of student life, so between working and not being in Brooklyn, I doubt I'll be around much more to argue about rent control, AY, landlords, gentrification, religion, and all of our other favorite topics.

Hopefully someone will fill the libertarian capitalist void that I'll be leaving behind. If not, I'd happily settle for at least a few people continuing to fight the good fight against the greatest economic evil of our time (except for agricultural subsidies of course): rent control. From housing shortages to gentrification to income inequality to bad tv shows to the sorry state of the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team to the fact that my high school girlfriend dumped me, it pretty much all leads back to rent control.

So, with those parting words, so long!! I'll drop by now and then to say what's up. Look after my borough while I'm away. ;)

  • come back and visit yer ol' pals in Brooklynian once in awhile, hear?
  • more importantly, are you leaving a good apartment that is up for rent? ;-)

    (only half-joking)

good luck in the big, bad city

You'll certainly be missed. I'd carry the libertarian capitalist torch for you, but unfortunately I'm a Radical Leftist.
  • well ... the best rent stabilized apartment I ever had (it involved doormen - one of whom gave me massages after shift) was in manhattan. the borough isn't ALL bad. but ... leaving brooklyn?
  • escap - my compañero - you'll be missed. But clearly your Libertarian, capitalist, non-rent control beliefs will be more than satisfied in Manhattan - where I'm sure you will be paid big bucks in order to afford very big rents. I would be happy to fulfill you political role here, but, alas, not possible 'cause I'm an unreformed leftist with anarchist tendencies.

You don't have to do this you know?
