No, there are large caged areas, which contain smaller cages. Some cats don't play well with others, and those are kept in one area and allowed to roam, but one at a time.
Other cats have open doors on their cages, so they can come and go as they please within the larger pen. There are scratching posts and toys and stuff.
The majority of cats that are kenneled tend to be indoor cats and don't mind being penned up.
They also only take about 20 - not 50. -

I used Quality time last weekend (on Bojolais's recommendation via PM – thanks!) and was quite pleased. The cats were sort of disappionted to have me back, I think.
