O'Connor's V. Freddy's Softball August September 2007

Hot enough fer ya? Not as hot as a summer grudge match between neighborhood bars. A tentative date of Sunday August 26 has been set for the O'Connors V. Freddy's sporty grudge match. In our last episode OC's won Freddy's 15 to 9, and as Freddy's team Captain Pat O'Shea said "That was a very very respectable 9, you jerk-asses!"

It is confirmed that Captain Kevin Kash (OC's) will be out of the Country leaving his native Bayridge and his team behind. This gives Freddy's Bar an opportunity to win by either creating great confusion or with just good old-fashioned sportsmanship. Feh.

It may be a bit early to post this but Captian Pat is looking for sporty Freddy's patrons (Trainsmoke D., Chris Caveman, Charles Star, you in?). It would help if you can catch, bat, run and stuff, but you must be a bar parton. To sign up for training dates e-mail Pat at [email protected].

    So I'm new to this whole softball game between the bars. I assume all are welcome to just come and watch, yes? When do you find out which diamond you'll be at?

    We use the same WETA sock monkey technology that Peter jackson used in King Kong.

    Bill C., that was very close. From left to right we have, MVP Jim, Former MVP Lex, and funnyman Captain Pat O'Shea. Lex is still out for the entire season and if you've seen him recently, he no longer sports a cast and sling.

    poppy13, we never know which diamond we will be using until lthat afternoon. That's what gives Freddy's the edge over OCs: deception. Actually we wait for a base to become available so both teams show up earlier and scout around. We've taken a tip from nature. Much like the moking bird, we look for an available nest, kick out the old brood, take over, and from then we're on easy street.

    Mamacita, good playing? That's novel. I was told that I bat and run like a blind girl, but they still let me show up. I hope that gives an idea of the level of required aptitude. You must be a parton of either bar to play for each respective team.

    Captain Pat is actually hosting Stand-up Comedy Monday tonight at Freddy's (9:00ish). For more softball information and for a soil-yourself-silly time drop by and chat it up with Pat.

    I thought fat made people fat, or at least look and feel fat. Here's some OC news. MVP, Megan "The Mighty Irish Chick" will be out of town, that leaves Troy to Captain the team. Bobby will have to play infield, outflied, and third. Whew.

    What kind of black magic is Freddy's Pat O'Shea practicing? This August game will be egdy. Or possibly lame. I'll take pictures either way.

    Dunno about the rescheduled dates. Football season starts soon, so if the Steelers play at 1, I'll make the games drunk as hell; if they play at 4, most likely I won't be there at all.

    Don't laugh - I'm knitting a swimsuit at the moment. Really.

    Honest. I knit a bra once too. It was horrific. I think I left it in a motel somewhere.

    Most importantly can you bat, catch, run, hit, etc.? I had to say no to two blind guys that showed up in swimsuits. They were nice and understanding though.

    No, apart from the fact that it would have been more of an SS Minnow sized rash, it was made of that Lion Brand cotton that comes with handy instructions for knitting a pot holder, and I'd dyed it with beetroot juice (it was a slow day). I knitted it in Montauk one night for my friend Alison (from Hooti Couture) who I thought may have the gumption to actually wear the thing, but she was sleeping at the time so I had a bit of trouble getting the, um, cup size right.

    Imagine - she wakes up on her nice relaxing beach trip to bloodshot-eyed me announcing that I've made her a beetroot juice stained cotton bra modelled on her boobs while she was sleeping.

    Sure, I play softball.

    Ugarte, Sunday September 9 is the alleged final date. But there are so many obstacles ahead (some call these excuses).

    1) Rain, both teams are in fact made of sugar
    2) Footbal season, many team mates wil be glued to the tube
    3) Captain Pat needs some back grooming, I think he's going for layers
    4) General terrorist activity


    Looking over my collection of yarns, better get working on the bra.

    Good comedy hosting the other Monday BTW. Kudos.
