Tap water in Park Slope

The tap water quality is very good here, the only thing you have to think about are the pipes in your building. Each place I've lived in has had good water but I've used a Brita filter just in case. My ex grew up in PS and always drank the tap water. He's never had a cavity in his life! (It's the fluoride.) Anyway, you're good with tap here. And welcome to the neighborhood!

The tap water in Park Slope is excellent. Drink up!
If you're concerned about the pipes in your building, just run the water until it runs cold (about a minute, maybe less). The main issue with building pipes has to do with water left standing (usually overnight), which is when metals (lead, copper) can leach in if they're present. A brief "flushing" fixes that in most buildings (there are always exceptions).
If you think you might be sensitive to chlorine, you can fill a jug, caraf or other container with water and leave it standing uncovered in the refrigerator. Chlorine volatizes rapidly. But this is usually not necessary.
Here's a link to the City's most recent Water Quality Report (2006) which describes the quality of drinking water: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/html/drinking_water/wsstate.shtml -
NYC water is some of the best in the nation.
I always fill up glass bottles with tap water and put them in the fridge.
There's nothing better. When you go anywhere else, drink bottled water.
NYC water doesn't smell. it's just swell! -
i use one of those brita filter containers.
it works fine -
New York City's tap water is piped in from watersheds in the Catskill mtns. You won't every need to boil your water cuz local flooding washed some crap into a local reservoir.

Nothing wrong with this advice, but don't drink bottled water because you think it is healthier for you than any tap water in the United States. Tap water in the US (and most developed countries for that matter) is highly regulated and perfectly safe for human consumption - including infants. There are exceptions I am sure, but bottled water does not have to pass any tests or even have to be tested for contaminants. It could have all kinds of crap in it. A lot of bottled water out there - like Dasani - is nothing more than repackaged tap water. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0304-04.htm
I am not against bottled water, but it is foolish to think that it is better for you than tap water. -
I have no doubt that bottled water is more dangerous than tap water. We had bottled water at work one time from a very prominent company that was contaminated with gasoline; you could smell it and independent lab tests confirmed it. The company insisted that we return the bottles for 'testing'. They 'accidentally' got spilt on the way back to the company in their truck, destroying the evidence.
