First Floor Window Heights
Random I know...can someone who lives on the first floor of a brownstone type building possibly measure the window height and width for me? I'm traveling but wanted to have some curtains made here with some great fabric I found. But, I know that the windows are taller than standard.
Thanks in advance

Um, most buildings vary drastically...the width of the brownstone, year, style, etc. would add to all of that. Is your apt. above or slightly below grade? That also would add to the window height...unless someone disagrees?
Sorry, buy extra yards

Ditto. My three front windows look the same, but actually vary in width between each other! 28-34" wide, 78-79" tall. FWIW.

Why not just buy the longest length they have, then hem the curtains once you get home!

I would really recommend buying the fabric and having the curtains made when you get home. You don't want to get home to discover the curtains are too short and you can't get more of that fabric.

Subject: thanks!
thanks for the info! agreed. the one catch is the cost of getting them made here is about 1/10 of the US so i might chance it if i find the perfect fabric.

do you have a sewing machine or access to one? if you're just talking basic curtains, they're hard NOT to make. you can get rings that clip on to their tops at pinchiks or another hardware/housewares place. then just hem the edges and you're done. a deep hem is nice on the bottom.
if your fabric happens to be the same width as your windows and you don't mind the selvage, then it's only 2 seams. (we have raw silk ones in the bedroom like this, since i like the way their selvage looks.)
if you're talking fancy, heavy drapes, then i suppose it's a bit trickier, but still -- it's just a square. -
And I made my curtains with that iron-on hemming tape. Works just fine for a simple hem.
