Stuck in Brooklyn this morning/last night's storm
Subject: Stuck in Brooklyn this morning/last night's storm
I just emailed my boss to say I'd be at least an hour late. Some dude from MTA was on NY1 a little while ago practically begging people to wait to give them time to pump out the system, and based on the MTA service alert page (http://www.mta.info/alert/alertnyct.htm) it looks like every train line I'd use to get to work is still having problems.Anyone else stuck at home this morning?
Also, WOW at that storm. Anyone from Kensington or Bay Ridge where a tornado supposedly possibly hit?

i gave up and called in sick.
the streets this morning were pretty funny though. everyone was just wandering around aimlessly on franklin, like a train would come out of the sky and take them to work or something. -
My company is sending me a car but is going to be two hours. I should be there rght now.
-
I headed out at six to miss everything. #4 to A to 42nd St. I got soaked to the bone walking through water over the curb at Eastern and Nostrand. Other than that, uneventful. Co-workers that live in Manhattan are currently calling in stranded though.
-
Yeah, I'm starting to think that an hour late isn't realistic.
Anyone wanna go get breakfast?
-
I started walking to Atlantic from Union St. and some girl said cops were telling people to go home. This was around 9:20ish. Called work and said I'd be ther by noon. Someone else called today a snowday! ha!
-
good god. I just got told to go home.
-
Be warned that a lot of breakfast places are not open....
-

I heard about the subway troubles and rode my bike in. I haven't seen the Brooklyn Bridge this crowded since the black out.
It's hot and humid out and riding a bike makes you sweaty. That's what I discovered today. -
finally made it in to work, after originally leaving the house in bedstuy at 8:04. LAME. The company did call me and my comanager a car which was nice because we just BSed the whole way here, but the bridges were nightmares...

I tried to get in, got on a train at Nostrand and sat in the station for twenty minutes. I gave up and went upstairs where I ran into a neighbor. Her husband picked us up and we started towards Williamsburg. We discovered that everything we thought would get us into the city was either delayed or not running so we both gave up and went home.
I'm sitting in my underwear on a conference call. Ain't life grand? -
You would have to be suicidal to get on the platforms at Pacific street about an hour ago. Im sure its just as bad now.
Im not going to work today and if I do not until after 12.

Well, it's 10:30 and Boyfriend and I are still stuck at home. My fellow admin keeps being optimistic and saying "Maybe you can have a half day!" HALF DAY? Bitch, I want a whole day!
-
its kinda bittersweet because thursday and friday are going to be hell after all the work I not going to do today.
bummer -
I got as far as Pacific and walked the rest of the way into town. I knew it was going to be a mess because I've seen a lot less rain completely baffle the whiz kids of the MTA. Not a bad walk, but I could use a little corn starch right about now if you know what I mean.
This morning also proved beyond doubt that the useless goddam G-train is the primary reason the F runs like crap year in and year out. The conductor informed us that due to a li'l water difficulty at Hoyt-Scummerhorn street there was a G-train sitting like a steaming turd in every station back to 4th Avenue. Hey, almost nobody rides the thing, but at least they run a ton of them! Ah well. I'm gonna email savetheg.org a little goatse action - all four of their members should be delighted. -
And of course, MTA hasn't updated their website at all in the last hour.
I'm really tempted to go back to sleep for a while. -
Um, apparently Boyfriend wants to be all noble and attempt to check out the 7th ave station at 11ish to try to go to work. WTF, why can't some people just stay home and take a sick day
-
because works gotta get done!!!!!!!
I might walk if it wasnt so hot and wasnt going to take me over an hour. -
i waited for the F at 9th forever and just gave up. I had breakfast at Daisy's.

It's August. What work could possibly have to be done that can't wait till tomorrow?
Today we are grateful we are freelancers and work from home. -

Why put off until tomorrow what you can do next week?
And on a side note, I was amazed when I moved to NYC from the west coast and found this slow down of work in the summer. I hadn't ever seen anything like it out there. I do admit that I love getting off at two on Fridays all summer though. -
Subject: Fuck the MTA!
I was one of those people walking back and forth on 4th ave between the Union station and the Atlantic station totally confused. I get to Union and everyone is coming out of the station saying they are not running. We all head over towards Atantic and a mob of people are heading from there towards Union saying Atlantic is shut down. We all end up standing in the street with our cell phones attempting to call into work or talking to each other trying to figure out which station is the best bet.
Needless to say 2 1/2 HOURS LATER!!!! I made it into work!!!!

Up around 59th st. they were turning trains back too....
And yes, Pacific/Atlantic station was a suicide mission. The pushing and stampeding :x -
I'm watching the bourne identity on dvd. I'm brushing up on my spy skillz so I can get a new job. you know, when my job doesn't fire me for just not showing today.
-
I'm a walker - I walked to Union Square. Not a bad walk, I enjoyed it and my Filipino tropics heritage kept me from being soaked in sweat.

They just updated the MTA website a couple of minutes ago.

Don't worry, Santa, you have months and months before Christmas!
I was going to be working at home today anyway, but I remember the last time this happened. I gave up on trying to get to work after 1.5-2 hours, and someone else in my department who lives semi-nearby somehow made it, and then I felt really stupid, even though she was the one who was clearly insane to try so hard to get to work when there was nothing special going on, in the summer. Our office was DEAD anyway. -

Yeah, it's weird - no tropics heritage here but I've never been a big sweater. I had a little sweat going by the time I got to the office, but some of the poor S.O.B.'s I saw on the bridge looked like they had just hopped out of the shower. I'm betting their co-workers are none too pleased they showed up right about now...
