Naidre's and dogs

Subject: Naidre's and dogs

What was once a cute place to get a light sandwich or dessert has deteriorated because of slow service, poorly made smoothies and obnoxious DOG HATING STAFF. Just the other day I went into Naidre's to get two smoothies to go and had tied my 10 month old puppy to the bench outside. I ordered the smoothies and went back outside. Five minutes later, I went in to check on my "complicated" smoothie order at which point my puppy let out two whimpers. The two employees began to loudly complain to one another about the noise and went so far as to stop making the smoothie, walk around the counter, pass me and melodramatically slam the door shut. They then continued their doggy bashing in front of everyone and took five more minutes to make the 2nd smoothie. To my additional disapointment, both smoothies were made with the wrong fruits and were so milk heavy that I may as well have ordered colored frozen milk. This wasn't the first time I've had a bad smoothie in Naidre's but it WAS the first time that I was insulted by out of line comments such as "someone better take care of that dog" when the blender was much louder than the literally two whimpers let out by my puppy before their harassment began. Their comments and actions were completely disproportionate to my puppy's cries and they made no effort to prevent me or others from hearing their dog hating remarks.

  • I smell a lawsuit
  • i smell an embellished story. sounds like either you didn't realize how annoying your barking dog was or one little comment sounded like a choir to you. i've always found the staff at naidre's to be very nice (although occasionally slow)
  • did you complain to management? what did they say? if not, you should have. and not for nothing, did you accept the product they gave you, even though it was not what you ordered?

there is a whole lot more to this story you're not providing...
  • what kind of smoothie did the dog have?

Sandwich. Puppy. Dessert. Puppy. Blender. Puppy.

All this talk about food makes me hungry. Where can I find Bosintang?
  • Dear FreshMazz,
I am one of the owners of Naidre's Cafe. It would be helpful to know when this alleged dog incident occurred so that I may query my staff as to what happened.

As for our smoothies, we pride ourselves on making them with nothing but fresh fruit (not canned concentrates like many others, and no ice to water them down), and whatever liquid you ask for. We freeze the fruit to avoid the ice so you get nothing but a pure fruit smoothie. We have to put in enough liquid for the machine to turn all that frozen fruit into something you can drink. In fact, our most common request from customers is to add more liquid to make it less thick! If you thought it had too much liquid, we would have happily exchanged it for you, so I apologize if your smoothie was not what you asked for. However, I'm more sorry you felt the need to call us dog haters. Not only do we love dogs, we purchase and give out free gourmet dog biscuits and have done so for years! One of the owners has recently adopted a new pup herself! In the future, I would recommend that if you have an issue, you to speak with the owner, or if unavailable, ask for an owner's phone number. We are always available to speak with our smoothie drinkin', dog lovin' customers! :)

Just a reminder to all of our dog lovin' customers in Park Slope and Carroll Gardens, that we give away FREE gourmet dog biscuits, and have been doing so for many years. Contrary to the previous post, at Naidre's, we think dogs rule!
  • Dog haters? Maybe not. But I have lost my patience with this place. The "care" they take with their food is more than the care they take with their customers. Although I have compassion for trying to deal with the picky consumers of PS.
But I've been as nice as possible, only to receive dirty looks, eye rolling, and a general crappy attitude. And for those with strollers--don't even bother going. Or if you do; please leave your stroller outside, it is way too narrow for all of us, and the employees don't care when little line fights break out.
  • MOD NOTE: i've edited the title of this thread so that it is less inflammatory. please pm me if you wish to discuss it.
  • well, when i go there i dont want to be waited on by someone who is more interested in singing along with the music than taking my order or has an attitude when i exclude a certain item on one of their "sandwiches" BUT this is a tough little town and park slope customers can be downright mean and nasty (seen it way too much in action) so dont give up on Naidre's Freshmoz - it may have been bad timing like those two times for me - i still go back and have had other pleasant experiences and good food
  • If the staff does roll their eyes on occasion, I can see why.

Ummm, slow down FreshMozz. I mean is it worth getting this worked up over? Seems like the owner was willing to make good on the milky drink. I appreciated her reply to your post. So did you say anything at the time? Was this a one time event? Your post is rather venomous, no? It could be worse. Like not getting served at all. I guess I'm getting increasingly troubled by posts trashing places with no attempt at resolution first.
  • wow. just when I forget why I'd never want to be a local, customer-service oriented small business....
  • I've never been to the PS one, but I've always liked the Cobble Hill one.

    That's my innocuous contribution. :P
  • I've never had anything but good service and good sandwiches at both Naidre's. Sure they can be a bit slow at times, but they are busy and they are a nice option in the neighborhood.
  • Poor service is because there are only poor jobs in cafes here in the slope. It is part of a big problem starting with rent for small business. If you want to sell a good cup of coffee because you love selling coffee you can't come up with $3000 a month in rent without selling crappy sandwiches, smoothies, etc... A barista who want to specialize in coffee doesn't want to be bothered with food preperation and milkshakes. She want to focus on espresso. So the only people to fill those jobs are part time slackers who can't get a job anywhere that makes a decent wage. Who wants to make $8 and be nice to picky, whiny, customers while making tedious smoothies? What is Naidre's? A coffee shop? A sandwich shop? A smoothie shop? A dog biscuit shop? Do they specialize in anything? Don't expect a good smoothie in a place that has to be a 'jack of all trades'.
  • roger, you seem to want to bash everything and blame it on the $$ it costs to live and rent here. and we should take your views seriously when you have made four postings here, and have a picture of a canker sore as your avatar. frankly, if you want to talk about picky and whiny, look no further than your computer screen.

wow, rogerroger. Your panties are really in a bunch over this bad service thing. I'm begining to wonder if the service would be better for you if you were nicer to the help. We're not talking Le Bernadin here.

Who was it compaining about the service singing to the music? How horrible that people are in good moods. They should all be scared and scowling, dammit. How dare they be happy at work.
  • (a barista peom)

    busy barista
    finished your doctorate yet?
    soy milk in mine please

You mean I can afford $3000 in rent if I serve coffee and sandwiches?

    Don't over-exaggerate or anything.

    Touchee, Brooklyn potter!!

    Or is it Toushie!!
  • Aren't you tired of mediocrity? Don't you want a business to take pride in what they do? Don't you want the best? People think they like Britney Spears music because they have never heard good music or had someone show them what good music is. Drakes coffee cake and Lender's Bagels are not good food but people think they like them! They need someone to show them The Bagel Hole or Lady Bird Bakery. Why do we dumb ourselves down? Food is important to our culture and so is being a proud/good human being.
  • rogerroger im listening to what your saying but its hard to talk about food with those "medical textbook" images as your id - cant you find a more pleasant image?
  • Alright! Another frigging cat picture!

For the record, there is a time and a place for Drakes. Not so sure about lenders,
  • Yeah that seems like ageneric cat pic..... does Roger own that Cat... doubt it...

Lender's Bagels really never make the cut but Drakes Cakes do it for me every now and again.Perhaps you need to be above a certian age to get the splash from eating one of those Drakes Crmb thingamajigs.

    i hear your voice

    i have no choice

    heaven help me

    - anon.
  • nothing wrong with another cat picture.
  • cats are MUCH better than canker sores. thanks for changing the image, roger.

No one is dumbing down. if you don't like the service somewhere, don't patronize that place. go somewhere else. Don't listen to music you don't like. Don't watch tv shows that are offensive to you. If you don't like Drake's pastries, eat somethng else. The market will sort itself out.

bitching and moaning is not a way to fix something.
