Lost Greyhound In Park Slope UPDATE: FOUND!

I just read this article on 1010wins.com. A New Jersey family left their dog with a dog sitter in Brooklyn and a woman said she found the dog and gave it to a guy named Kevin in Park Slope. Has anyone seen the dog?

I've seen flyers up about this dog. (The photo at the top of the article is the color version of the one used on said flyers.)
-
How did the dog sitter lose the dog in the first place? And if Kevin has the dog and isn't giving it back, that's just wrong.
I hope someone sees him walking it and calls the cops.
Is the dog microchipped? All shelters and vets are supposed to check for chipping and contact the owner immediately.
I feel much safer having that done, just in case one of our dogs got lost. Pretty good retreival rate for owners. -
Good news--this little dog was found:

When the Daily News cover story came out yesterday, plus the coverage from the radio stations 1010 WINS and CBS, the high visibility brought great results:
- From 11:30 PM to 1:20 PM, we received several phone calls indicating an Italian Greyhound was seen in the local area. Many said they are certain it's the dog, but need to wait until the morning.
- Then at 1:30 AM this morning, "BINGO" we finally got a message from “Kevinâ€. Kevin's real name is Barry. He and his wife, Suzanna, were keeping Gracie safe and taking good care of her since they were given the dog by Maria on 7/16/07.
- When he heard about our situation, he immediately offered to return the dog and allowed to pickup Gracie right away. He suggested us to meet at the McDonald on 38th & 4th Ave.
- We headed out into Brooklyn at ~2AM and met Suzanna and BArry at 3:15 AM. From a distance we saw Barry and Susanna, along with a dog. My daughter yelled out …G.R. A. C. I. E and Gracie immediately responded. In the lime light of the parking lot, Gracie ran forward looking out into the dark with bright eyes, immediately recognized our family. It was as joyous reunion. I thought I got a heart attack...from so much joy.
Barry and Suzanne are a nice, young couple and have no children. Barry (recalled how he got Gracie) who was on his way to Brooklyn College when Maria & Nicole found Gracie as she was hiding behind the Baptish church. Together they took Gracie to the vet, Dr. Lancesman on Flatbush to tend for her bleeding paws/nails.
A day later, Barry & his wife returned to take Gracie home. Gracie was renamed "Juliana" by Maria, and later subsequently renamed "Lena" by Barry and his wife.
All through the search, we were looking for 'Kevin'. The name confusion added to the equation and made the search more difficult. In addition, Maria did not have his phone number and he was not in contact with Maria since picking up the Gracie. He works afternoon and evening in Park Slope and was not aware of our search until late yesterday when his friends saw the news and alerted him. Barry said his friends called him and said " Dude! they are looking for your dog!". Barry took some times to check the websites, read the paper until way late then made the phone call to us.
We thanked the couple, we hugged, we laughed and we cried. Barry was happy to return Gracie, Susanna has becomes attached to Gracie, so it was a hard goodbye for her.
I still not believe it. ..still like a dream!...I need to pinch myself...We came home at 4:30 AM. I could not wait to inform you all. I called Bonnie early on my way to work today.
Although we tried so hard looking for her, we wanted to believe in a happy ending. However, as the month went by, in the back of our mind…we thought we had lost Gracie forever.
Fortunately, God is on our side, and with so many wonderful friends helping us search for Gracie and providing continuous help and support, both physically & mentally, you all kept us positive and encouraged us to keep going.

XOXOXO -
Cool. Glad it worked out. Hopefully they'll police the area shortly. Those posters are all over the damned place.

I hope "Maria" gets reimbursed for the trip to the vet.

I have to agree. It's great to see a happy ending, and now it's up to everyone that taped the doggie's picture around a tree in Prospect Park to do the right thing and clean up.
And I say that as someone who has lost a dog, posted flyers, and taken those flyers down.
Yeah, Gracie found her home! -
What an excellent ending.
You're all very special for jumping in to help Gracie's owners find her to take her back home.
Howdy, Stranger!
