Dr. Yael Fuchs
Methodist Hospital -
is this the only reccomendation?
can anyone else list some names and experiences PLEASE?
thanks! -
I would suggest that you take a look at the website www.Parkslopeparents.com where there are many contributions on the topic of good OB/birth experiences. Currently there is a discussion regarding people's experiences with natural Births at LICH- lots of input on the topic of childbirth there.

What about a regular Gyno?
I'm not pregnant but need a good gyno in PS.....
Thanks Barefoot! -
There are a lot of recommendations in here:
http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4865&highlight=gyn -
There will be lots of info on GYN too- keep in mind that OBGYNs do more GYN these days than OB anyway due to rising costs of insurance, so the docs listed there should be taking GYN patients readily.

i'm going to veto the dr. yael fuchs recommendation (sorry veets). in the thread veggiequeen pointed to i recommended her, but i recently had a such an unacceptable experience with her that i ended up switching doctors in the middle of being treated for an illness.
i'm not saying she's unqualified because i believe she is. but her
behavior and attitude where i was concerned was so unprofessional i would never go back to her again.
feel free to PM me for more details -
I had a horrible experience with Dr. Fuchs. I had been a patient of hers for years and when I got pregnant I stayed with her. Big, big mistake. I don't want to go into it -- I don't even want to think about it, much less write about it.
I second the recommendation of joining the Park Slope Parents Yahoo group. -
brooke lynne and brooklynpotter, who do you use now?

Sadly, I signed up with Dr. Fuchs when i got my new insurance. I haven't seen her yet. Now I have to start looking again.
When i was pregnant i used a doctor/midwife practice that worked out of Methodist. They were really awesome. Does anyone know if they are still around? I want to switch to them. -
i'm back with my old gyn in new jersey.

The birthing wing at LICH has been closed, so says my gyno who used to run it. They did 6000 deliveries a year. Rumor is LICH is being sold off in pieces by continuum.
I'd stay away from methodist.
Go to the web site of your insurance provider and see if they have someone who delivers at NY downtown.
Having given birth in Bklyn, I'd highly recommend going that route. I can't recommend my gyn, as he no longer does OB. -

Sadly, Urban Baby is a very rich source of information. Get the hell lout of there after you have your baby, or you will become braindead and any self confidence you have will be sucked out of you.

Don't miss the research report there, for OB/GYN check malpractice info, big difference between doctors.
My wife uses Peter Brzechffa (not sure of spelling) and loves him. -
They're not in PS, but I have had very good experiences with Murray Hill OB/GYN in Manhattan. It's an all-female practice and there are several docs (I've been to a few over the years, and all were great, with the exception of one who is no longer there). I haven't had a baby, so I can't speak to the OB side, but for regular gyno stuff, they're great.
-
can i ask why so many of us (women) see it as really important that we see female gyns? i'm not putting down anything anyone has said, esp. the poster above me. but so many women want to see only women docs.

Maybe someone should rate Dr. Fuchs.

By the way, rbb - if this is your site it works really badly with firefox. The drop-down list doesn't work properly.

filmlover44,
It’s not my site. I read about it recently in HealthWise. I liked it and signed up, so I am a member. It worked for me with no problems, but I will email the admin with the info though. Thanks. -
Thanks for the great tip. I hope more doctors start getting ratings there. It's good to see if your doctor has no malpractice suits and all that!
-
Ah .. lots more than just rating by malpractice suits..
Happen to know a little on this.. For instance.. if you have the patience.. check how manY suits against docs associated now or in the past with Kings County Hospital.. overly large percentage.. Not because of inferior docs but service in certain hospitals in the City ... (of any kind ) seems to lead to suits.. and most especially in OB/GYN -

You don't have to sign up special for that service. It's all public record on the AMA web site, and others. -
bklyngirl,
You don’t have to register for MDInfoCentral either. All info is free and available to anyone. You only have to register if you want to rate your doctor which makes sense to me.
I might be wrong but I think AMA only gives you basic info. NYS gives you the malpractice info but no ratings, no surgery info. As far as I know this is the only place that pulls it all together without charging you for it.
I know that there is a site, not sure which one, that sells that for something like $14 per report, so I think having it for free in one place is a pretty good deal.
Well, I like it anyway. -

Personally, I've got nothing against male OB/GYN (especially not Dr. Huxtable), but since I've got the choice, I figure I might as well go with a doctor who has the parts he/she is examining. I'm sure dude docs are just as capable. I mostly just mentioned it because I thought it might be an appealing aspect to some people.
-
I wouldn't let Dr Huxtable anywhere near me.
-
There are a few reasons I prefer a female GYN over a male one. One is what torisoaw said, I want a doctor who has the same equipment I do. A male doctor can know as much as possible about the female body but he will never know what it's like to be a female. He can never have cramps or a period. Another is that I don't fancy strange men sticking their faces all up in my girly bits 5 minutes after I've met them.
-
i take it you are moving from outside the city? what does your OLD GP say about this/recommend?
-
Have a feeling populux was a drive by poster.. I pmed her and never heard from her either. No matter.. the question sparked a thread that helps women with finding the right doc for them. Many of my friends still havent found their comfort zone with finding the right ob/gyn yet. So the more discussion on this topic .. the beter.. never know what you can learn.
