Condos at 794 St. John's
Subject: Condos at 794 St. John's
In case anyone is interested, the condo complex at 794 St. John's is apparently almost completely sold out: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/rfs/395995697.html. There were originally sixteen units on the market. I just called the broker to confirm that there is indeed only one more unit available (the broker says the place sold out in a matter of two months).I had been monitoring the listing for this place since I first saw it. In fact, I pass by the place all the time, but never got around to viewing the apartments. Has anyone had the opportunity?
There was a Brownstoner post about the condos some months back, but for some reason I am having trouble accesssing the link. If you are interested, you can just Google "Brownstoner 794 St. John's" and you should be directed to the post.

weird that their map shows the A and C stopping near them. That seems a pretty major error, to put the A/C on Eastern Parkway.
-
They also said that the condos were in Prospect Heights... which is just a lie. They don't even have Crown Heights listed as one of their neighborhoods..

FYI, my son was mugged on that block in front of that building about 1 1/2 years ago. A man was found dead on that block not to long ago and the corner of St. Johns Pl and Nostrand has been a notorious drug locale for decades.
I applaud the courage of those buying at 794. It may the beginning of some fundemental change on the block. Let's hope so. -
It's been a tough block, no question, but I've lived in the neighborhood since 2001 and walked past the building dozens of times. I wasn't mugged. Capt. Planet is right about drug sales on the block - there had been an open-air weed market going on there for some time. But it appears (since I still walk by often) that this activity has been significantly reduced if not stopped. Teen-agers and other folks hang around the liquor store directly across the street, but overall, I'd say the area is generally safe. The block has a way to go, but it looks like it's moving in the right direction.

I noticed the absence of any Crown Heights reference myself. Annoying! But, to be fair, on Craigslist the location was described as "Crown Heights/Prospect Heights".

There was a big police bust about 3-4 months ago(?) in four houses in the area.. it has DRAMATICALLY changed the corner drug activity... I live on St Johns, on the other side of Nostrand. That isn't to say there won't be new dealers to fill the void but it feels better...

Corrected:
OK folks, since this may be shilling for the condo, it was moved by me to the real estate board. In my personal opinion this was an obvious "advertorial", but that's just one man's opinion. And, I certainly can be wrong from time to time
If you feel I have done this in error, PM me.
Though I will restate, please read "THE RULES" before you post, especially if it may be an "advertorial" discussion point.
