We can't put up with it anymore people!

How can restaurants continue to open here and justify charging $25 for entrees without backing it up with good service? It starts with you landlords charging $10,000 for a spot on 5th ave. You are ruining our community. You restaurant owners are fools for agreeing to pay this and pass the outrageous costs on to us. Recent offenders...Miriam, I had to wait 5 minutes to be seated in an empty restaraunt next to an un bussed table. 10 minutes passed, no menu, no waiter, no busser. I left. Next offender... Peperoncini, same thing. I left. Next, that sushi place next to Excelsior. Waited an hour from ordering, no entree, got up and left, did leave money for the app and wine. We all know how much Moutarde sucks. Little D's is the opposite, good service, ok food, but HUGE bill. Not worth it. Applewood? Poor service. I'll gladly pay for great food and great service. Why dine in Park Slope when you can go to Gramercy Tavern or Union Square Cafe, Little Owl, Cru, Eleven Madison and many other places? Convenience is not enough. How about wine lists? A lot of these places sell the same mass produced wine that you can get at Red White & Bubbly for $10. And they don't even store and serve it at the right temperature! We are doomed as a culinary destination.Comments

stop going to places with bad service. let the market take care of them. /shrugs.

Actually rogerroger,
It starts with the free market. If owners can get the rent, then good for them.
Armchair Warrior is correct. Read the reviews for the restaurants before you go. timeout mag. is always covering what's new.
Could it be that you can't get into the good PS restaurants?
Al Di La, Blue Ribbon, Etc?
Like Union Square and Midtown, and Downtown, you will always have bad restaurants mixed in with the good. Be a bit more discriminating. It's your stomache after all.
But blaming the Landlord. Come on. -

Corking fees. Well worth it every time. Unless you like paying $9.00 a glass for big house red. (not bad at 9. a bottle though, good for parties) -
I'll add Moim to the list of very good restaurants in Park Slope.
They are still working out some kinks, but both my visits there were terrific.
That place Chiles and Chocolates gets my vote too.
We might have some bad apples in terms of restaurants, but every neighborhood does. Ever been to the Upper West Side?? For every nice place, there's about 100 crappy ones... -
Little D. is one of the only places in park slope that i have had top notch "manhattan style" service every time , but when i want great food AND great service i get out of park slope and head for the city

I grew up in Manhattan. the service there isn't any better. -

No kidding. I didn't grow up there, but I've eaten there any number of times over the last couple years. Taken as a whole, I don't find service there particularly different than service in Brooklyn. Maybe it is my choice of establishment. When I eat at a place that gives me poor service, I just don't go back. Brooklyn, Manhattan, or anywhere. Vote with yer feet. And mouth. Just not simultaneously. Cause that could get nasty. -
It is funny that the phrase "manhattan style" service is used as if it is a good thing! I lived in Manhattan for 10 years and I can assure you that I have had some very bad "manhattan style" service.

im not talking falafel joints here, restaurants with $25-30 entrees, cookshop, the tasting room, wd-50, eleven madison.... prices comparable to better park slope restaurants, but in no way comparable in their service - seasoned waiters commute to nyc - better tips, better service.

Agreed. I don't care how good the food is. Service is 50% of the experience. If I get bad service at a restaurant, I don't come back for more.
Howdy, Stranger!
