What's up with everybody feeding stray cats?

Subject: What's up with everybody feeding stray cats?

What's up with everybody feeding the stray cats in Bed Stuy?? My neighbor downstairs leaves food on our stoop for them and I woke up this morning and was accosted at the front door by 2 hungry kitties... I don't like cats so I was not pleased.

I've seen other people with bowls of food for the cats as well... I don't get it... if you're feeding cats then you're feeding pigeons.. and rats... and apparently raccoons (if you live in CH).. Why not just adopt the strays, dip them in a flea bath and feed them INSIDE your house...?

I guess the folks in Bed Stuy are just WAY more caring than the folks back in Harlem... Is anyone else kind of bothered by this, or am I just a bad person? :?

  • That is a bit of a sticky wicket. I wish we had more cats than rats on my blocks, I am fighting them with broken glass but they seem to be winning; bring out the cats.

This reminds me.....Did anyone ever read that Dr Seuss kids story about the kingdom where the King brings in hundreds of cats to get rid of the mice who were eating his cheese? Then the cats ruined the place so he brought in dogs. The dogs were worse, so he brought in lions. The lions were insane so he brought in elephants. Obviously the elephants were a disaster so he brought in...mice! LOL - gourmand's note just brought that whole story to my mind :-)
  • Yes, it's much better to let them starve or get fatally mauled by a dog when they're searching for food. Why they're no better than pigeons in this city anyway.
