Bad shopping experience at Target
I had a horrible shopping experience at the Atlantic Center Target this morning.
The store manager and associated idiotic support staff were not helpful at all.
There was a promotion for a $5 Target gift card with the purchase of any 3 Pantene or Head & Shoulders products. However, one of the inept staff said it only applied to the sale items - listed for $6.29. But the tag did not say that specifically. They took the sign and would not let me take a picture of it so I can include it in my complaint to Target corporate. Also they claimed this was noted in the circular which they could not produce a copy of in the store (interesting, huh?).
On top of the wait to figure all this out, they had alerted security as well (Target really has a way of showing they value their customers).
Has anyone else had similiar experiences? I am no longer going to shop at this Target location. I will also follow up a letter to Target corporate.

I couldn't have lower expectations for the staff & shopping experience at that Target. I go there for the bare necessities (and sales), and I consider it a success if I don't walk out of there angry at the world.

Has anyone ever had a good shopping experience at that Target?

Ah, that's nothing. Try the Key Food on 7th Avenue where they'll overcharge you 20 cents on everything and then make you wait in the customer service line for half an hour to get your money back. One trip to Key Food and you'll want to slit your wrists.

If at all possible, just don't go to Target on a Saturday. They're always overwhelmed and overcrowded -- the lines are long, the staff is even more irritable than usual, and the store's a crowded mess. You probably won't avoid annoyances completely by going on a weekday, but weekends are just the worst possible times to go, especially if you're going to be dealing with coupons or anything that requires the slightest bit more attention than usual from the staff.

I haven't had that problem at the Key Food on Nostrand, but that kind of thing REALLY makes me angry. On the plus side, I had a pleasant experience in Rite Aid over the weekend. They had certain candies tagged 2 for $1, so I had the kids pick from only those ones. They took forever, which was surprising since there was only like four kinds to choose from. At the register the candies rang up $.89 each, and I complained. The manager was right there and pointed out that the 2 for $1 tags had small print on them denoting which candies they were good for, which actually WEREN'T the candies they were in front of. I felt stupid for not reading them, and a bit perturbed at their carelessness of putting the tags in the wrong places. She immediately followed that up with a comment that it wasn't my fault and reached over the register with her key and had the cashier give them to me for $.50 each. Cool. Customer service. -
UPDATE
So I called the Target Corporate 800 # today and told them about my experience. The customer service rep said this will be addressed through Corporate and the Store Managers.
Although I know the horrible service at this Target location will not change, I'm hoping this makes a dent. Or at the very least, the Target at Atlantic Terminal will know that people are watching and will express displeasure at rude service.
BrooklynPotter, I'm going to boycott this store location but will give the one at Flatbush Junction a try when it opens up. -

i'm actually boycotting all targets, not just the one here, because of their policies regarding their pharmacists ability to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions. till that changes, no target for me.

Not me, that's for sure. One time when I first moved to the city I made the n00b mistake of going to Macy's a week or so before Christmas to do a little shopping. It was a nightmare. Everybody was rude and angry, merchandise was strewn all over the place, they were out of a bunch of different things and it took forever to get out of there. After a few visits, I realized that's what it's like every single day at that Target. I don't go if I can help it. -
I went to the Atlantic Ave Target once. Probably May. I found it crowded. Disorganized. Lots of broken stuff. Much too many of some things (I didn't want) while having empty bins of others (which I did). Rude employees. LONG lines. And so I haven't been back.

I had one yesterday - I knew exactly what I wanted, I only needed a couple of items and I checked out by the digital cameras upstairs. I was in and out in about 12 minutes.
The lines are dreadful at the check-outs on the bottom floor, and the place usually does look disheveled, but it's gotta be tough to keep on top of a place that sees so many shoppers any given day... It's a double-whammy at that location - they have a ton of traffic because of the location/population density AND the space restrictions forced them to make compromises on their typical floor layout, causing even more severe bottlenecks. -

Yup, I bought something from sporting goods...

I try to only do Target shopping in suburbia (when I visit my mom). Target here is a nightmare. Stuff missing from shelves, long lines, staff who can't be bothered to help........

i'm the last of the boycott hold-outs.

yes. It's an cave of wonder and almost comic over-consumerism, when you stand back and watch (while waiting in the mile-long line to pay)
But it makes me cringe to overhear the abuse shop assistants endure every second of their miserable days earning $7.50 an hour...
