Heh. Somewhere a while back I read about a border collie that had been tested by researchers who estimated it understood the words for 200 different objects.
But "cold" and "hot"? When do you use those with the dog? -
Well, I only use "cold" in the winter, and only use "hot" in the summer - so he probably doesn't know both words at the same time. He probably forgets the dormant one when it's not in season, ha ha.
I'll say "It's cold!" when I'm out with my dog who refuses to wear a sweater, and he's standing there shivering and looking up at me.
We go for long walks all the time, but in the summer when it's hot and humid, he poops out pretty quickly, and will just stop walking and stand there on the sidewalk, panting. That would be a time when I'd use "hot" (and it's my cue to carry him home, heh).
I tend to use the same phrases over and over when I talk to my dog. I do it out of habit - but after a while I'll notice that he seems to know what they mean. He make associations between sounds and events pretty easily. Whenever the phone rings, he knows that someone will be coming over soon (doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough that he now runs to the front door and barks when the phone rings (kind of annoying). -
Let's see, my list for Cheech and Ripley:
walk
no
bad
good
kitty
sit
down (only Ripley)
up
paw (Ripley)
mommy
stop
wait
car (Cheech)
cookie
go

beatings? (I threaten, I threaten!)
cheese! -
But what dog words have you learned?
