Real Estate Attorney recs please!
Hi All,
I am in the process of purchasing an apartment in the neighborhood and was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for a good real estate attorney.
I would really much prefer not to go into finding a lawyer totally blind.....
So, if you've had a good experience with one please let me know!
Thanks for the help :P

We worked with Donald Fraser ((718) 625-7766) on our recent apartment purchase and he was great- thorough, professional, responsive, and not averse to a little handholding for 2 first-timers.
-
I used Kurt Roth twice: Phone 718-596-1603, email [email protected].

Thanks so much for you responses....
and another question (hope you don't mind-cause i'm definitely a bit wet behind the ears when it come to real estate and all that jazz)

Thanks thanks thanks thanks!

bob dubno, on president street and 7th ave. i love him.

I second Donald Fraser... he is great

I would recommend Bob Dubno as well! He helped me close on my co-op a couple of months back and is very knowledgable about the ins and outs of residential closings. In fact, the bank's attorney at my closing commented on just how competent an attorney Bob was compared to the hundreds of attorneys he had dealt with in the past.

Subject: Bob Dubno = rude
I am looking to move again and in my research noticed that people have mentioned Bob Dubno. I used him the last time I bought and all I can say is that he is a bully, and he's rude and inconsiderate. The type of guy that makes your blood boil when you're talking to him.
He's cheap, but you get what you pay for. He is not an idiot and he does understand Brooklyn real estate, but then again, there are a lot of other lawyers to choose from so there's no reason to settle (it is NY and we have our fair share of lawyers). He also knows all of the other lawyers in Brooklyn, which kind of makes you feel that they are all in cahoots with each other and not looking out for your best interests.
I do NOT recommend you use this guy.
If you're short on funds and have a high tolerance for rudeness, go for it. But everyone should know that this guy is as unpleasant as they come. And now that I'm all riled up again, I did a search and found this link from several years ago, which makes me confident that nothing has changed with him: Bob Dubno ripoff -
I used Marcus Attorneys http://www.marcusattorneys.com/page.php?id=3
I liked Jed Marcus A LOT! I don't really know about all the lawyers at the lawfirm but DON'T USE Philip J. Lavender...HE IS A MESS!!!! -
I second BrooklynNite03. I used Dubno a few years ago and found him unbelievably rude and difficult to deal with. He was good on the technical aspects of the work, but impossible to tolerate. We used someone else the next time (who has since retired, unfortunately).

I had a great experience with Phil Lavender--didn't seem like a mess to me. That was just my experience, though. It sounds like Spain had a different, worse, time with Phil.

I can't believe anyone wrote "I love Dubno" unless he paid that person. The guy is scum. It's true he's cheap but not worth one dime, much less the added stress caused by having to deal with him. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy. I spoke to a friend who lives in park slope after I had a bad experience with Bob Dubno and he immediately recoiled and expressed his wish that I had consulted with him before choosing a lawyer because he also had a terrible experience with him. Run in the opposite direction. -

Third recommendation for Bob Dubno. Great guy esp. for 1st timers. Dunno what his costs are today but I'm guessing round 2K or less. Sorry to hear he rubbed others up the wrong way, but I found him delightful, responsive, and creative and clever when it came to swinging things in our favour. -
Here's my favorite:
Susan Groberg. 16 Court Street Brooklyn (718) 858-4880 -

Yeah I used him once, no problem, then teh second time I had to get a new lawyer to finish the job, Bob was just causing too many problems with the other attorney and the broker. -

I want to thank you for your honest posting here.
You are helping lots of people by posting honest reviews. I have never met or dealt with this guy, but knowing this ahead of time , for future reference does help.

Rudeness is not necessary. Thanks for your informative posting.MeredithB wrote: [quote=Bricktop]I second BrooklynNite03. Subject: Conflicting posts? There might be a key here
Thank you for your post. From reading all the posts, I believe I know what is happeningwith this Dubno guy. People are posting their honest feelings and experiences about Dubno. So those with horrible experiences are real and without a doubtpossibly true. Then someone posts some good notes (there were three or so), and they have no clue why the bad notes are posted). The key is in the writing of one post that explains that how he "bullies". I do not know Dubno so I can not give a real rating here. However, what I do know about bullies is thatIF THEY DO NOT GET their own way, that is when their ugly, bullying side comes out. So, quite possibly, the people who quoted the good quotes simply have not seen the full sides of Dubno. Perhaps he got his own way with them and had no opportunity or reason to become "the bully". In any event, it is in my opinion, that if someone is a bully, then steer clear of them. Again, I have no personal business with this guy but I am posting thisbecause I read all the quotes and some seem conflicting. This is just my opinion, that is all.MeredithB wrote: [quote=Bricktop]I second BrooklynNite03. I used Dubno a few years ago and found him unbelievably rude and difficult to deal with. Who is the best lawyer for wills?

Subject: Real Estate Attorney Recs
Michael Levine is primarily a personal injury lawyer but he also regularly does real estate closings.
He helped my daughter, a first time home buyer, through the entire process. He promptly answered all her questions over a period of several weeks. He was patient and amiable. His fees are reasonable. She and I attended the closing today and he explained every form she had to sign. His number is 212-564-9090. -

Wait. So everyone who had a bad experience with him is right and everyone who had a good experience is wrong?
I used Dubno a number of years ago and he helped me out a lot. When I was buying a co-op my previous landlord was threatening to sue me and he advised me on the problem without charge--pretty cool I thought. His personal style might be a bit brusque, but there seem to be at least as many people here who had good experiences with him as had bad ones.
Anyway, I can't compare him to any of the other lawyers mentioned in this thread, but if I were going to make a suggestion I would simply call a few of them up and see who you had the best rapport with. -
When I saw this topic, I got all excited. Hey, I thought, I should recommend my lawyer, Susan Groberg. Then I realized that this zombie thread is so crazy old that I had already seen it, recommended Susan, and totally forgotten about it back in October!
