Apt. Hunting - could use your info/insights re: neighborhood
I'm looking at an apartment around Monroe & Classon I wonder if anyone can give me some info on the immediate area. I'm not necessarily asking how safe the area is, although if you have good, specific info then cool. Mostly, though, I'm asking about any insight you can give if you're from around here, like "there are no laundromats for blocks" or "there're no good restaurants and no one delivers" or "there's a great grocery store a block away".
any info would be greatly appreciated!
thanks everyone!

i live right there. There are two laundry mats nearby on Fulton within easy walking distance (one is on Putnam/Fulton, the other up toward Franklin), there is Met on Fulton nearby buy I would suggest Fresh Direct, and delivery is somewhat lacking, although you can get a few things. Graziella's, Mario's, Red Bamboo, Chavella's all deliver, and all are good. If anyone knows any other good delivery, I'd love to know.
All in all, it's a safe area. There are always loud screaming young kids running around really late at night (what's up with that??) and lots of activity on the streets. It gets worse down toward the corner of Classon and Fulton, but you don't need to walk by that to get to the Clinton/Washington stop on the C. -
Bombay and Brooks Valley will deliver, and Folukie and Le toukouleur are two blocks away on Bedford, and Kush is on Putnam and Grand about 4 short blocks away all good restaurants. The Y is on Bedford and Quincy less than a warm up walk away. Heavenly Crumbs on Franklin and Lexington should take care of your sweet tooth.

I live on Bedford/Quincy and I take the C to Franklin and walk up, which might be faster than taking C to Clinton/Wash. The Y is great and cheap - it's actually on Monroe and Bedford. The worst thing about the area is the lack of grocery stores. Otherwise, the neighborhood is friendly and very quiet in places.

Also Al's hat shop near the corner of fulton and franklin is the best hat store ever!

I live in the area as well. It is quiet for the most part. There is a laundromat on Fulton near Franklin Ave. Aside from the Met grocery store on Fulton and Cambridge Pl, there is a KeyFood on Fulton and Franklin. I live on Gates Ave near Irving and venture over to Pathmark at Atlantic Center or the Foodtown on Fulton and Brooklyn Aves. I like those supermarkets much better.'As for restaurants that deliver, try Hunanwok in parkslope , Buffpatty on Myrtle for caribbeanfood as well as Soulie on Fulton and St James,Jakes BBq on Columbia St delivers to the area as well and you have Papajohns Pizzeria on Fulton and Claver Pl that delivers to satisfy your pizza cravings.Oops, also Yummytummy chinese on Myrtle and Mr Wonton in park slope. But for the nights you dont mind taking a short stroll for a good meal try Locandi Ollie n Vini on Gates and Cambridge, Kush on Grand and Putnam, Choice Markets on Lafayette and Grand and Dakar on Grand and Clifton Pl.You also arent too far from Ft Greene that has an Habana Outpost on Fulton and S Portland Sts as well other restaurants on that strip. If that liquor store would close on Fulton St and Classon that would solve that problem of people hanging around.

Thanks for all the tips, everyone. Please keep them coming.
On the subject of groceries: I currently live much closer to Pathmark so I go there a lot and I have to say I'm really disappointed. I find the prices to be inexplicably, unpredictably high, they are frequently out of stock, their produce leaves much to be desired, etc. It makes me sad that so many people tout it as one of the best around. And FreshDirect's prices are so high it's hardly a possibility. It's so ridiculous that in Park Slope a few blocks away the quality is so much better. It's one of the many eye-opening experiences I've had since moving to Brooklyn a few years ago witnessing the disparity in the availability of such basic necessities as affordable nutritious food. Absolutely appalling and so sad to me. -

i can't stand those kids! I hear them until 1130 at night sometimes. I've called 311 every time I see them, but I'm sure it hasn't had any affect. It has got better lately though, and hopefully, with school coming soon it will end completely.
