Suggestions for dessert?

sprite
edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I'm hosting brunch for ten on Saturday, and I was thinking of getting dessert from Joyce, but I haven't tried any of their cakes. Anyone have a suggestion? (Their fruit tarts look good, but I think I'm going to make fruit salad instead.)

Also, I planned to get quiche from there, but I haven't tried it. Is it good? I know Gamin's quiches are good - do they do a large quiche for takeout?

EDIT: Since Joyce is closed this week, any dessert recommendations are welcome! Thanks.

  • I bought a chocolate banana tart from Joyce last weekend for a party, and it was delicious!
  • Unfortunately, I think Joyce's is closed this entire week.
  • Joyce is closed for vacation 'til Aug 28th, according to sign on their door.
however, their chocolate raspberry mousse cake is to die for. =P~
  • Damn. I was going to get some of their croissants, too. Any suggestions for desserts from somewhere else?
  • maybe some of that new ice cream from the joint on vandy with some dessert wine poured over it from fermented grapes?
  • Cousin John's, on 7th Ave between Lincoln and Berkeley, sells really great fruit tarts and other baked goods.
  • Take the train to Balthazar in Soho.
  • Make the fruit salad you were going to make. With a little bit of fresh ginger boiled in syrup poured over it.
  • The croissants from the organic baked goods place (next to the oh-so-popular fish monger) at the Farmer's Market are decent if you have time to run up there Saturday morning.

Also, Sweet Melissa in PS on 7th has the best chocolate chip cookies (with whole almonds!) I have ever had. They also sell other baked goods.

I personally don't love Cousin John's, but it is close in a pinch and does have a wide variety of offerings.
  • Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up getting a few small things from Cousin John's. I will keep these ideas in mind for future, though - you're all way more creative than me. :)
