tell me about the hts now...

hi all.

i'm thinking of moving to the neighborhood. i lived on bergen between carlton and vanderbilt in 1991, my first apartment in nyc, a sublet, with a friend and some strangers, it was good but you know, really different in 1991... and i've mostly been in manhattan since then. mostly lower manhattan. which has been mostly good. i'm thinking of moving back though and was wondering ... how's life around prospect heights these days? are muggings near the D train common? drunk or not? is the new stuff on vanderbilt fun? or not so fun? you all seem to be really enjoying each other - and prospect heights - tell me more, if you don't mind....?

thanks so much!

no -- the lack of a D train has really cut down on those.
  • Come to Soda tonight (take the B/Q to 7th Ave, walk east to Vanderbilt and Prospect)... a bunch of us are meeting up, we'll tell you all about it.

Naw but if you can deal with the 'locals', random shootings (again amongst the locals), not being able to get food or a cab after ~10PM on a weekend, etc., it's a good deal, especially if you have a bike.

huh? you can totally get food & transport after 10 p.m. want a yellow cab? head to flatbush. if not, call arecibo. heck, monaco drove a group of us to rubulad last winter IN A BLIZZARD. at 1 a.m. as for food? we've got albaz, soda, noona, ToD, crown fried chicken, mcdonalds and white castle all serving well after midnight. candicissima and I once bought out the crown fried chicken supply after a party near classon on prospect -- everything they had for $5. genius. so, I'd say you're off the mark on those points.

in any case, see ya tonight!
  • i'm gonna try to come tonight. have a friend's going-away party in greenpoint - so someone'll have to get me to a G. where the G?

my mistake on the D train. right, right, it's Q. i think when i lived here in 91, was it a D? or am i totally off base?

1991, there was no le gamin. or soda. there was a great coffee shop on flatbush though. silver spoon. we went there A LOT.
  • the G stops on vanderbilt, I think, and then you can either walk or take a bus ....
  • The Clinton/Washington G stop is at Clinton and Lafayette, a brisk 15-20 min. walk from Soda.

The D train did used to stop at the 7th Ave. stop that is now the B/Q. I forget when it stopped exactly, late 90's maybe--there was construction on the Manhattan bridge for several years and when the trains started going over the bridge again the routes were changed around. I miss the D stopping there--the B train is useless except for weekday rush hours.
  • Just curious...how was the Crown Fried Chicken??? Good? Gross?
  • crown fried chicken is pretty awesome. Carnivore, I believe, prefers kennedy fried chicken but we don't have one of those within stumbling distance, so I consume crown.
