Wedding Rehersal Dinner Options? — Brooklynian

Wedding Rehersal Dinner Options?

Hi,
I need to find an affordable place to host my rehersal dinner in November. We have 16 people that are slated to attend the event and we don't have a lot of money to spend, although we want the dinner, naturally, to be nice.

Our parents are over 70 and one is diabetic, so that would mean we need diabetic friendly foods and a place that is not too loud. Also a good wine list or bar on site would be great.

Any and all suggestions would be welcome. Thank you!

  • Do a search on the boards for rehersal dinner. I think this question has been the subject of a couple of threads over the last year or so.

Good luck finding a place and congrats!
  • What about the back room area at Palo Santo. It looks gorgoeus and romantic.
  • I would definitely recommend APROPOS CAFE on 5th Avenue in park Slope (by Sackett Street). It is intimate, affordable, has great food, romantic and has a wonderful wine selection. You would have the whole cafe to yourself as it seats a max of about 16 (so you could make the place as loud as you want!!) and the owner is super lovely, and I am sure that he would be able to accommodate diabetic requests.

I love going there for a good meal, a good coffee and a good wine!

Congratulations and I hope you have a wonderful evening wherever you end up booking!
  • we were thinking about the party room at two boots. its good for small group and cheap with a good bar!

not sure if it tooo unhealthy for you though.
  • We had ours at Bubby's in Dumbo. It was great!
  • I am a fan of Bubby's//// I cn well imagine that it was a great party.
  • How about Long Tan? There's lots of room back there, and it's a nice space. Reasonably priced.

Thanks everyone for your excellent suggestions! We went to Apropos Cafe and it was AMAZING. The owner was lovely and helpful. It's affordable; the food is fresh, tasty and just all-around great. The wine list is also very extensive and we tasted lots of really good wines. I cannot recommend Apropos Cafe enough! It really will be the perfect venue for our rehearsal dinner. We're going back tonight with friends.
  • So glad you loved Apropos Cafe and are going to have your rehearsal dinner there. Isn't it a cute place? What did you order? One of the bruschetta combinations is divine - the fig and gorgonzola cheese one. i would never have picked that as a combination but hey, it worked a treat. And I love the arugula salad paired with a white wine, of course. Hope your friends enjoyed it - I am sure they would have. The coffee they serve up also hits the mark.
  • Where is Apropos?
  • it is on the cnr of Sackett and 5th Avenue. Next door to Lobo. The website is under construction but you can get contact details from it - www.aproposcafe.com
  • loveloft... i hate to say it, but it sounds like you are affiliated with Apropos...
I certainly don't want to stir anything up, but if you are, why not just come out and say it?

btw, we went to Apropos once several months ago and it was quite nice. I could see it as a "private party" space quite well, if the owners are amenable.
  • How about Flatbush farm on Saint Marks and 6th ave. great wine list, great bar plus outdoor patio
  • Nope, just a raving fan!
  • Apropos pulled the small business classic: "Closed for Renovations" to just plan closed.

    Congrats on the wedding!
When I got married we kept to a really tight budget and my friend made a great suggestion - we hired a chef and staff and held it in my home. We rented everything and the staff cleaned and packed everything up for us. Our parents and friends brought over old photos and videos. We were able to to create our own menu and we didn't have to deal with crowds, etc. We had about 30 people and it cost all together about $25-30 a head but it did not include specialty wine - that we purchased ourselves.
Whatever you do I hope you enjoy your special day.
