City Has No Project to Replace 150-Employee Firm

fort greene — The future of a financial services firm and its 150 employees is fraught with uncertainty now that the city has approved the use of eminent domain to seize the company’s building within the BAM Cultural District.

That's just WRONG.

I hope the publicity helps. Brooklyn Eagle isn't the most widely read paper.

This has been know for YEARS. The owner of the building, who we kinda knew, was getting offers from BAM LDC all the time.
Sorry to sound crass, but we knew about this back in 2003 before we moved. I feel sorry for the people, but this was not an unknown. Eyes wide shut, if you ask me.
My 2 cents as a former Ft. Greener and an artist/creative type. -
wait, though, what was known? bc getting offers from BAM isn't quite the same as getting seized. if you mean that the seizure was known about, i'll agree that's different.

It was similar to AY...we'll pay you now (5 yrs ago)...but if you wait, then watch out.

yeah, and if they have to use eminent domain to get it, that's f*k'ed up.
when the city supports something like this, and they are doing it for *business improvement* reasons, AND they aren't working something out for the existing business, that employs 150 people . . . it's just wrong.
I think eminent domain is abused when it's used to the benefit of one commercial enterprise over another. I understand if it's for a road or some other public works project (case-by-case arguments may apply of course) but just for a business? No.
Knowing about it, and planning for it, and dealing with it is a whole 'nother question - which is what I think LiGH is talking about. -
Yep, that's not to say it doesn't suck those folks were duped
